Put an SSD in it and a fresh install of Windows or any other new operating system.

Wipe/reload windows or add an SSD up until 25th my kids were happily playing minecraft roblox etc on 2nd gen i5 laptops
Yoy need to be carefull with certain Dell models. The screen is terrible apparently.

This was with the first generation of 7567 gaming laptops dell released with a terrible TN panel, they replaced it with a decent IPS display in the refresh. From the reviews this display looks acceptable anda the 4k variant is apparently premium in quality

That can have many reasons but if you never fresh installed then that’s a good idea. Also a SSD as mentioned before will do good to the performance. Make also sure you do not have the wrong AV as some slow down your PC quite a bit.

True, apart from the fact that this is a 17.3" screen and the Dell has a 15.6" screen (probably lighter, though).

It was the IPS replacement I was referring to. Not great for an IPS by any means. Colour accuracy, colour space and peak brightness are all sub par. Better than the TN it's replaced but still not great.

As you've said though, the 4K screen is great.

It's my first time posting but I had this same dilemma and then I went for the Hp Omen 17, I tried posting the deal link here but its on John Lewis for 999 there's no SSD but has 1060 6Gb gfx card
Its interesting that there have been more 17" deals like this than 15". Personally I can see why (size, weight, maybe even screen quality) but I am still surprised that the extra screen estate ends up being cheaper.

As for this deal, it is pretty decent but if you really are going to be playing games regularly then you must get an SSD or worse case a good Hybrid drive. I replaced my hard drive with a Hybrid then bought a smaller M.2 SSD for the O/S.

Of the Gaming beast's out there, OMEN, ALIENS ARE, and the like.

Which is the best Gaming one/one's to go for in general?, or ... thanx.
Nice spec but 6gb of ram is really bad for that price

Well I done about 2 days worth of research and got many opinions off this off friends who have got msi laptops. Just to confirm first that the laptop I was talking about has 6gb of VRAM for the gtx 1060 graphics card not for the RAM for the computer. I went for this one with John Lewis because of two reasons :
1) G Sync 120 hz screen with gtx 1060 6gb VRAM not 3gb;
2) best price and better screen than the dell and also cheaper than the dell

They're all pretty similar tbh. All have good and bad points.

Alienware tend to be overpriced imho.

Asus are good value for money but are prone to design faults.

Medion are very well priced but are a little unknown and repairs can take months

The latest HP Omen 15 is good but you need to get the 120hz screen version as the standard IPS is pants.
Downside is it uses the Max Q version of the 1060

Dell are again overpriced. But you do get the occasional good deal.
Poor screens again though.

MSI are a mixed bag, you pretty much get what you pay for.

Acer are OK. Not as bad as some think. My last one lasted for 8 years.
You get some good deals too through their website.

Hope that helps

I went for that deal too. I checked the service guide and it looks a doddle to open these up and add an m.2 pcie ssd and another 8GB DDR4 2400 RAM for say £200 total. I'll then reinstall the O.S. on the ssd. With the 1060GTX, 256GB ssd, 1TB 7200hdd, 120hz FHD screen 4 x core Kaby Lake i7 and 16GB RAM it will be a nice bit of kit for £1200 total. Not to mention the 2 year John Lewis Warranty.

Thanks. Great laptop, this. Got my eye on the 15" version with the 120hz screen. Such a shame it doesn't come with an SSD though.

There's one on Amazon with 15 inch screen and 128GB SSD for £1,169.10 It's temporarily out of stock but you can still order it
Bit pricey for me tbh. I could add an SSD for less cash. Maybe some extra RAM too

I just received the laptop and they didn't even send out my vr headset, looks like I will just return it as my order and invoice clearly shows vr bundle included. Idiots
