Harpenden Sainsbury's had 2 of these in stock when the store closed today. Was asking about the Medion Netbook availability and the girl at customer services said "do you mean this?" bringing out a Sat Nav.

Romford branch had one of these in the window when i picked up my Medion Akoya's

Which model akoya did you buy?

it was the mini, e1210, the last 2 although they had more that were reserved!

that i sgreat i got one too at sainsbury hot

WARNING: This is a terrible sat nav, I bought one and after 4 uses it's been hidden in my glove box and never used again.

It got us lost EVERY SINGLE TIME, my Blackberry with Google maps saved us EVERY time the sat nav got us lost.

I would NEVER recommend this to anyone, even at £10 or £20.

if you can run tomtom on this this is an absolute bargain

i wouldnt use the preloaded navigation software though

This is also in my local store, but out of stock, so could be nationwide.

because if you can't post a concise one sentence question, why should people bother to decipher your ambiguity

"where did you get the 29.99 from?" the correct answer to this would have been "my pocket"

I don't want to give you an english lesson, but wouldn't this have been better ?

"which store did you get it from?"

or even

"where did you get this from?"

For anyone interested, Tomtom should work on this model, however you'd be looking at probably version 5 with older maps.

dad bought one of these couple of months back at £20. in sainsburys

Just got one at my local - THANKS OP

Sat-Nav is just criminally cheap now. Surely all the masses of recent adopters will impact the connection/loading speed of the original few who've had Sat-Nav since Y2K?

Thanks OP!
Got 1 from local store!

Thanks op, got one from my local - they had 4 more left. Price was 29.35 (VAT reduction).

Heat & rep added.

they will soon be giving them away

"thanks for trying to make me look like a dick will do the same to you someday!!!!"

Theres no need for that.

I haven't replyed.

Oh yeah, just to burst a few bubbles unfortunately but alas no, you can't put tomtom on this.

Although it's based on Windows CE, the vast majority of the kernel has been removed (or something, this is what I read last time) and as such it won't run anything but it's own software, sorry.

Or else I would have done it by now and I would be using the poxy thing

Got one it don't seem too bad

You're right - sort of... Couldn't get TomTom 6 to work on this. Apparantly TomTom 5 works but I didn't want out of date maps. I've put Route 66 on it and that works fine but anytime you do a hard reset or the battery completely drains then you have to re-install it!!

I've tried using the GoPal software and... it's actually quite good!! I've used incarnations of the TomTom software for the past 6 years or so and there are some features missing in comparison, but for less than £30 it'll do!

I still don't trust mine though, I keep borrowing other peoples satnav's and I just leave mine in the glovebox, hopeing one day it'll sort itself out lol

@superman_sam: what version did you use?
I've found tomtom 7 version - it says that is ok for win ce 5.0
And how did you install it?
Let's find a solution together here? I bought one as well, so now i am after installing tomtom

ok, just for update on this thread - i've managed to get to the windows CE with task bar and start button. The WIN CE is in English, i am trying to start TomTom 6 on it, will keep u updated.
Will try with TT7 as well later.

kekata, how did you boot to taskbar? Does you unit still boot to taskbar even after you do a hard reset by keeping the power button pressed until it turns off?
I couldn't get TomTom 6 to work because I think that there are some files missing in this version of windows ce - perhaps one way of getting it to work is to find a device with windows ce on it and copy the contents of the windows folder onto the medion 1st?

Hi,
No it's not booting after hard reset. But i did change the image viewer.exe with showtaskbar.exe (or whatever it was :))
So when i did a hard reset - the taskbar is easy to start. After that you can use shortcuts. It is too much info in the internet, but not for this particular model, so i has to figure out what to use.
May be it missing smthng - will see.
I will continue with it tomorrow.
here u can find some info:

How did you get the Win CE desktop and start menu?

Once you get there it's straightforward to install TT5 (I have the original discs)

Please share.

Thanks

I haven't tried putting TomTom on since only v5 works and the maps are too old for me.

I have managed to customise the menu screen by editing menu.xml in the my flash disk folder and the my flash disk/navigation/menu folder. By changing some of the lines in menu.xml I've managed to put in an icon for Route66 V7 (which runs off sd card) on the first screen as well as keeping the GoPal icon, then I changed the multimedia icon for an arrow. Clicking the arrow takes you to the second screen where you have travel guide and picture viewer, then I added icons for showtaskbar.exe and explorer.exe so I can get into WindowsCE if needed.

I do like Route66 for its user interface, but the more I use GoPal the more I like it! It lacks things like alternate routes and avoid roadblock that TomTom features, but has really good speed camera alerts and I like the way it changes to night mode automatically.

I have done the show taskbar, my windows ce 5 is in english,so my question is how do i put the tom tom on,I have got tt7 to try can anybody help ?
