It has a low-mid range graphics card, and a quad core i7 8th gen processor. Yes, this is a gaming laptop.

The i7 8550u is comparable to an i7 6700hq, An i7 7700hq is only about 10% faster.

Gaming laptop amigo, should have at least nVidia 1060, not crappy 1050... and i know i7 8th gen is pretty good, but for gaming i'll still go for hq processor.

Well said, given that a 1060 equipped laptop is about 50% more than this better off using this 2 years then buying the next step up for a few hundred quid on top. Not many games won't run at decent settings on this.

edit:
forgot to add
i play via hdmi on my tv
i use a trainer + custom cheat table
its a medion laptop
d3dgear is a screen capture prog
i use an xbox one bt controller

Is it a gaming laptop for someone who wants to run COD WW2 at max settings? Or get smooth frame rates on something like Total War: Warhammer? Nah.

Will it be entirely sufficient for a huge number of games running at medium or even high settings? Yup.

People getting elitist over a £700 gaming laptop probably need to take into account that anyone into high end gaming laptop wouldn't look at this anyway. This is a good value device for what it is.

I'm a gamer myself but am currently considering a MX150 based laptop... 50% less powerful again than a 1050. But, you know what - I've got a desktop with a 1070 and all I want from my laptop is to be able to play some older games when I want, or play some current games at low/med settings.

Horses for courses.
I have same specs laptop (MSI) but unfortunately i don't have Final Fantasy. I know frames drops when using recording software, but shouldn't drop to 2FPS!
The games i've played so far, e.g. COD WWII, GTA V, Battlefield 1 etc are running great on max settings with processor temp hitting max 82C...

Probably your first step out to be to download a performance / CPU / heat monitoring programme to see where you've got issues. Something is certainly bottle-necking your performance in a big way. In game recording could certainly be a suspect...

Oh just knock it off, I've got a laptop with the MX150 and it's capable of playing Witcher 3 at full HD admittedly with some quality turned down so the 1050 is perfectly capable of playing games.

By the definition anything with proper graphics is a gaming laptop whether the model snobs like it or not.

you saying that i have an acer i5 with 8gb ram and 750m 4gb, and it played most of what i threw at it just had to be 30fps on medium.

Great price but OOS …Great price but OOS nationwide:https://www.checknow.co.uk/searchresult.php?itemnumber=6065812

it was in stock at swindon, thanks will expire now, it was a bargain at that price
Yeah I'd have gone for it if it were in stock.
Hot, would have been perfect for my usage if it was 15in (providing RAM can be upgraded to 16GB)
The 1050 isn't that bad performance wise. It will run some newer games on high settings at 30fps but to achieve 60fps you will have to drop settings and resolution. Depends on the game.

Some benchmarks here:

notebookcheck.net/NVI…tml

I've had one of these laptops before. They are decent value for the spec and my only real complaint was the screen which was a bit crap.

I agree there's far too many snobs on here. 1050 will give people some decent gaming experiences. I have to question your performance on the Witcher 3 @1080p with the mx150. All the benchmarks I've seen it runs around 20fps at this resolution and that's with settings dialed back. Medium settings will break 30-40 fps at a res of 1366x768 though.

Anyway that's a different story.

The U processors are fine for the majority of games. It's only where a game is CPU intensive do you need the HQ. Games like Football manager 2018.
Even intel hd 620 is capable to do most of x360 time games at 720 to 1080p,thats what i do to play those good old titles. 1050 is fine if you are not running after perfection in every way.
Would this be a downgrade from my 5 year old Samsung laptop? 8GB RAM, i7 (3rd gen) and dedicated graphics
