Just my periodic post that an old BT hub can be repurposed to provide a second wi-fi point in your home. If you don't have one, Ebay has them for £5. This is my own article, sorry for the self-advertising:

Good price, but please read the manual. This can be complicated to set up. Or get a computer friend to help.

Most routers can be used to do this - check the settings/manual and see if the option is there. Some might have firmware that don't support it (especially if it's a cheap router provided/branded by an ISP) but the router might support custom firmware (such as OpenWRT) that adds the feature.

If you can get an old BT hub for £5, that's great, but just bear in mind that the older versions might not be as fast as your primary router so that will throttle any devices that connect to the second router. I think the best way to do it is pester your ISP for the newest router from them, then buy yourself a decent one to use as your primary router and use the ISP one as the extender.

Every extender I've setup has only had to have network access. Even the older ones that claim to need a PC & come with an installation CD.

First thing should be to plug it in. Give it a min to get ready. Press WPS button, then press & hold the WPS button on router for a few secs. You then open up wifi on phone/tab & see if the new SSID is broadcasting. If it is, then connect up (inputting router password if necessary)

If that fails. Then you use ethernet plugged into the router directly. Plug extender into socket (or extension lead if you don't have a double socket/adapter on hand) Connect extender & router via the ethernet cable that comes with extender. It now has wired network access. Meaning it should simply be a case of opening wifi on phone/tablet & choose to connect to the new SSID. Launch your browser & it should start online config automatically. If it doesn't for some reason, then manually type in the web interface url (192.168.10.253) & complete the setup online.
Stupid question: If I have an ethernet cable do I plug that into this to spread the wifi? Whats the other port for...presume I can use that to connect a wired other connection in?

If I don`t plug the ethernet cable in does this pick up a poor wifi signal and boost it?

I have the same issue with my Sky hub. Rang them loads of times. Yes sir your getting 40mb to your house. Change these dozen settings see how u get on. No change. Bought the Xiaomi extender 2. Got it set up but very unstable and all my devices won't always work. Eg PS4 says no and Fire stick won't have any of it either.

Thanks for that.. Is there anyway to use the spare BT hub as an extender without using the Ethernet cable? I dont have an Ethernet connect in my room where I want to install the spare BT hub. I was wondering if this can be done via WPS ?
OP .. would help everyone also, if you mentioned it somewhere on your Post, that the Merchant for your WiFi Extender is actually Medion as well? (but preferably in the Title Bar somewhere ... ) :-)
Pleased with mine and pleased with the company.
