Meet the Mega Drive PlayTV! Imitating the original look of the Mega Drive/Genesis, the system made by Sega Toys comes with six 16 bit games and connects directly to your TV. The controller of the unit shows a shiny 16 BIT POWER logo and looks damn good.

The six built-in games are Sonic the Hedgehog, King of Monster, Golden Axe, Dr. Robotnics Mean Bean Machine, Kid Chameleon and Flicky. Once voted the World's Most Popular Computer Game, Sonic the Hedgehog was designed as Sega's answer to Nintendo's mascot Mario and was largely responsible for the success of the Mega Drive. Some of you might still remember King of Monster as one of the first games where you just walk over Tokyo's buildings like they are not there. Golden Axe is the classic medieval swordfighting arcade beat-em-up. Kid Chameleon is known as the sideways platform game featuring the hero with a split-personality. Dr. Robotnics Mean Bean Machine is Sega's famous puzzle game. Flicky is strangely addictive. The object is to collect all of the little chicks on the map while avoiding cats and lizards, or Iggys, as the game likes to call them.

Just one pad? Bummer. Better off paying £10-15 for the proper machine with some pads plus a few games on ebay, then you can keep adding to your game collection too.

ahh memories! I loved my mega drive and now I'm singin the Sonic music in my head nooooo!!!

They also have the Street Fighter 2 version of this as well (Cross Gates , Leeds store)

You never had to chip the megadrive?!?!? All you had to do was cut away the cartridge hole or get an extender to put the cartridge in.

Id rather just play them on my PSP.:)

These came out well before Sony announced the PlayTV device.

Yep, although you could play it with a 3 button pad, you had to press start to toggle between punch and kick!

'Chip' and is 'chip-away'... quite possibly the first form of chipping a video games console
