Thought I put this together as looking around for a second hand or new phone and the process of getting them unlocked is norlt wholly clear and in one place.

So here we go

Ebay is the cheapest way and I use them myself but the codes arent always acquired by the sellers through legit methods. Not an issue for the person purchasing though.

Really? How so

I've been told quite often that the people selling them have a contact that works within the phone company, and that they put them through the system for free without permission from the company. Effectively stealing the codes and money from the company.

Not sure if theres any truth in it though.
So do the ebay codes work on the Iphone SE purchased from Music magpie and locked to Vodafone, did not really want to wait 30 days for Voda to unlock?

Using Ebay or with Vodafone?

Both

Bought a phone locked to Vodafone
Ordered one of their free pay-as-you-go sims
Put the sim in the phone - didn't top it up or use it at all, other than to switch the phone on
After 30 days asked for an unlock code and got it within a few hours
Innteresting, thanks.
Awesome work buddy. Thank you so much.
If grey area eBay sellers can obtain unlock codes via complicit mobile network employees then the same types can access and sell other data of yours or perform a SIM switch to do an online bank fraud. With GDPR now threatening a 4% of turnover fine, I really wonder that the big mobile networks will allow all this to continue. Interesting times.

Confused why is this called aega thread can't see any one adding anything extra to it it's not like we are going keep getting different offers every few weeks/days on unlocking from networks . Most phone's are supposed to be unlocked know adays for.f

This is a useful guide from MSE.

However, the companies that say they will unlock your phone for free will only do this if you are the original purchaser.

I tried to get a second-hand Three phone unlocked, and they said they could only do that with the original purchaser's permission and personal details. Security, I suppose, in case it's a stolen phone.
