Best thing was free horse riding on my own cantering down the beach into the sea and eating freshly grilled barracuda that i just caught 10 mins before we just tipped the beach grill chef he grilled it up for us as hotel ran out of basic food most days US embargo days. Costa rica looks so exciting volcanoes jungles etc BA fly there now so we are going next year.

Have a lovely time! Yes I think stuck in a resort you may have a skewed view of a place, I've been researching Cuba and it's so much more than the AI resorts. Hopefully you have a DIY trip planned to Costa Rica and aren't spending it in a resort?

Surely you're missing a trick by not staying for longer in Havana. Aim to at least stay a night or two in Hotel Nacional for the money you're saving on Varadero.

It's out of my budget 482 Euro a night!! Tried a few different dates in December. It will be a small casa for me at £30 a night.

I went about 15 years ago on a complete 'not my type of holiday' with family in an AI resort and felt stranded stuck there for 9 nights but this time planning to turn it into a variety of a trip this time, including Havana, Trinidad and Valle de Vinales this time.

Yeah I think it does increase with more spends and years you've been a member - But the first one, if you've only one booking, is 10% - That's what I got a couple of weeks ago, was sorting a stag do to Benidorm and booked one of their hotels, week later it was my birthday and they sent me a 10% off code, so I cancelled my existing booking and booked again, but this time used the code and sorted a £25 saving for everyone. Not a massive amount, but it'll do. I also used my 2000 free Melia reward points.

Just after you select the hotel

My bad, I misunderstood - I thought it was for all Melia hotels. Seems it only pops up for the London one.

Many thx for sharing op
