Yes they do use slave labour but so do the expensive brands but at least Primark aren't extorting the end user.

Well said:thumbsup:

I think they should be really proud of being able to stitch at 3.

I think that going shopping with £2.

I am then going to but some eggs, about 15 Value for a pound and a jumper with the rest.

Bargain!

by employing people in poverty, who wouldn't normally have jobs, so they can earn money to feed their families. Like has been said above, most shops do the same and just charge you more for the pleasure.

Very cheap, just don't wash it!

At least they have jobs. With the economic downturn, they'll be the nouveau riche in 6 months. We'll be making clothes for India soon

Oh...so that's alright then?

No, but when everyone does it - Primark shouldn't be singled out for criticism.

I'm sure pretty much everyone in the country (if not all) owns clothing, goods etc. that are made by slave labour.

I would personally like to see the Government enforce an international minimum wage - nowhere near as high as ours, but tailored to each individual country so it gives the workers enough money to be able to live to a half-decent standard.

Brim;4200756

Technically speaking, they are not slave labourers. Slaves get no pay for working.
The people reported in the press recently got paid £3 and hour in a Manchester factory.
That's a damned sight more than they would have got paid if they were doing the same thing in China. And these people will spend the money in the UK, thereby contributing to the economy.

I would much rather work for £3 an hour than scrounge off the dole. That is precisely the problem with having a minimum wage, although I am sure therre are plenty of arguments for it too. People complain about immigrant, illegal or otherwise, "taking all the jobs" in this country. But how many would accept a low paid job if you were paid less that what you get on social security?

In today's economy ..... consumer wants cheaper goods, therefore employers need to cut cost, therefore employ cheapest labour possible, then people start complaining about them employing immigrants and unethical behaviour.

So, yes, IMO, it is alright to employ CHEAP labour. SLAVE labour is actually very rare these days and will be illegal almost anywhere in the world.

Thats why I make a note to only get the happy ones.

I'm from India and 3£ can't buy anything in India.. In fact in last summer and this winter GAP Sale shirt/t-shirt were so cheap I thought to buy and export them to India ...

definitely product of child labour..

just tried this at merry hill primark - was on shelf @ 2.81! went thru at 1.81 i got ripped off! but 2 be fair... still cheap... would pay more for a duster @ asda

There was a program showing how bad Primark are, but will all the investigation the only child labour they found was children testing sequins that had be sewn by adults. So just dont buy the clothes with sequins on!

Bet this causes a huge amount of static.

yes, but the quality of primark stuff really sucks.....had some slippers at christmas and theyve already fallen apart

Trickyjabs;4200304

spot on.....they stuff shrinks after a couple of cool washes the quality is poor

I work in fashion design and have worked with primark many times, not all items in store come from the same source perhaps a select few items are cut and stitched in the poorer areas of asia etc, however some will be uk made, The work I do will be designed here and then sent out to factorys ( approved) to be mass produced, even river island m&s next and a large many others all do exactly the same, the store is not always at fault if the overseas ''approved'' factorys then farm the order out to low paid/bad conditioned factorys.
Places like Primark buy an item at £2 and sell it out at £2.50, places like River island buy an item and sell it out a 3 times maybe more than what they paid for it.
