Meridian Crunchy Peanut Butter 1kg for £5 at Asda

If you're in the market for some reasonably priced crunchy peanut butter, this seems to be the cheapest around at the moment.

If you don't have an Asda near by but have Amazon prime and can wait 2-4 weeks, you can get 2 tubs for £10 here: amazon.co.uk/gp/…new

The peanuts are processed with the skins on, giving it a bitter taste. It was also a fairly disgusting texture as a lot of the oil had separated out. Suppose that's what you get when you leave out the emulsifiers as well as the salt and sugar. It's back to the sugar and salt laden stuff for us - unless my wife's doing the shopping and we get Whole Earth.

You did stir the oil back in like the tub says right?

Nice."Get some nuts!!"
This really is THE best peanut butter there is.
"this seems to be the cheapest around.

Not really. Tesco's own brand works out at £3.80 per kilo and their cheapie range is erm... cheaper.
Does anyone know if this has No Added Salt And Sugar? Or is there some other brand you can help me with for my 2 year old thanks

I thought it was pretty awful myself. I'm not sure if they invented this stuff to help you realise there's a point to additives in things but that's definitely the outcome

That wasn't the claim though was it?

Thanks CardboardCutout, I love peanut butter and would normally just buy the cheapest jar per kg I could find. I became aware of the problems caused by cultivating palm oil and looked for a cheap alternative that didn't have it. With no added palm oil, sugar or salt and only containing 100% peanuts, I was sceptical, but gave it a try. I now love it and my kids like it too.

I had to buy whole Earth stuff recently when I couldn't get this in Sainsbury's. Honestly, it was like spreading salt on my toast, with a hint of peanuts. Dreadful stuff.

If you like the taste of peanuts, this is the best peanut butter there is. If you don't like the taste of this, then I'd question whether you actually like the taste of peanuts in the first place!

People have been adding salt to things in order to improve the taste for a long time. It doesn't mean you don't like the taste of the original thing. In fact, I'd be surprised if you could honestly tell me that you don't have a salt shaker in your home. I personally missed the salt when I bought this peanut butter.
As suspected, Tesco (or at least ours) have stopped doing the 1kg and only do the 750g at £5.50, effectively a 34p increase!

100% agree. I usually add some rock/sea salt myself, this way is much better.

Probably not. You gotta spend a good few minutes to stir it to get the best out of it.
This stuff is just terrible.
