'Death Magnetic' is the ninth studio album from heavy metaltitans Metallica, who link up with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Slayer) for the first time. Epic guitar solos from Kirk Hammett, constant speed changes and multiple riffs per song make the follow-up to 2003's 'St. Anger' a throwback to the band's pre-1990s style. James Hetfield's vocals and the pounding rhythms of Lars Ulrich are as powerful as ever, while Bass player Rob Trujillo appears on a studio recordingwith the band for the first time.

Any vouchers, anyone?

Sounds terrible on CD - I bought this but later downloaded a copy from a torrent site that had been ripped and re-mastered from the Guitar Hero game - and the sound difference is unbelievable!!

Will now sell my copy on £Bay

Thanks for the pointer - I'll have to check that out. Interesting stuff on the blog too, plus there's some very interesting comments from sound engineers.

OK, I've just checked out the GH3 version - and wow, the differences are quite noticeable. I've deleted the CD rip on my PC and replaced it with the downloaded version.

I would, however, quite like to hear some of the remixes done by people commenting on that blog.

Not a fan of the band as people, but I LOVE this album. Nothing else gets the blood and legs pumping when I'm out on my mountain bike quite like this album at the moment.

Interesting info on the GH3 rip - gonna have a mooch for it now :pirate: and compare to my CD.

Heat and rep anyhoo.

I have the version from the "internet" and it is better quality, but I still own the actual disc that I paid for. Selling it would be wrong.

kick ass album thanks very much...anyway ordered the limited edition digipack which is 8.99 down from 11.99!!

'Found' the GH3 rip on t'interweb. OMFG - it's a different album isn't it??

I'd read about the fuss over sound quality but when you don't have anything to compare the original to, it's difficult to appreciate. I do now though!!

This arrived today in an envelope from Hong Kong...

Anyone else have the sneaking suspicion that it's a fake?!

The quality of the print on the back cover (track listings) seems very low. It looks like it's been done on an inkjet printer (albeit a reasonably good one) at someone's house! The edges of the lettering on the rear and spine isn't sharp and the paper it's printed on isn't brilliant white. It would be difficult to recreate the front cover with all those layers though - but possible for a pro-bootleg outfit.

Maybe they're all like this. I will check out a cover when I'm in shops today to see how they compare.

Did no one else purchase this from CD-WOW? :?

I might cross them off my list of retailers I'd buy from.
