I’d probably say save a bit more money and buy a Google Hub Display and set the screen to the digital clock. Better interface, regular updates, and more features. They regularly go on offer if you don’t mind waiting patiently (edited)

Do these have an 'emergency' battery in them? Like, if there was a powercut it would stay on for a bit? Or am I being incredibly old fashioned?

    Xiaomi's specs here

    Connects only via 2.4Ghz WiFi.
Seems to be powered by a microUSB, in which case you should be able to have this daisy-chained to a powerbank as a power outage fail-safe.

Even if the wi-fi guess down, the alarms still activates and clock still runs. If the power goes down, then nothing until it is back on, but then the alarms and features are straight back on within a minute. And how often does the power stay off for that long?

So much more reliable than my old Sony alarm clock where the backup battery in the back was flat by the time I had a power issue 😁 and then comes back on showing a flashing 12:00 when I eventually wake up late. I don't have one of these but a couple of the Lenovo and Google units.

    Hope this helps

I could wax lyrical about the Jogger. Had about4 of them with Squeezebox Client running on them and USB DACs.

Definitely. Having YouTube at hand is so useful. Plus having everything (timers, questions etc) show up on the screen is so much better than just audio

Wow ... I forgot about these. Couldn't they be hacked to do more stuff than they were designed for? I remember really wanting one of them but never got one.

Yes these were hacked, but eventually hardware was not able to withstand the demand. I think mine is still up in the loft...

Get it out of the loft Man , they are still being updated and used by quite a few people , just been updated to Debian Bullseye which is in line with the Raspberry Pi .

I just read the review and sounds basically identical. Still can’t watch video on this except for smart cams

Only 24.99 at GAME. They say it was 29.99 which you’ve got it on as. You might want to update mate.

    Is it dimmable? (edited)

Hopefully this Xiaomi doesn't like to take a daily reboot nap that the Lenovo likes to do.

What issues are you having? Mine seems OK.

Looks pretty nice and it's decent deal, but the annoying thing about third-party Google assistant devices is they are not always compatible with some features, and you have to trust vendor they will support the newest features in reasonable time (almost never happened).

Extremely disappointed with this. Bought it to act as a huge b for my Xiaomi smart sensors. Won’t link to Xiaomi Smart Home app so it’s basically useless to me….. That is, unless anyone here knows a workaround….
