This seems like an excellent price for an Audi approved tyre. Next cheapest I can find is £143 (Camskill).

A good tyre but the Audi approval simply means they have paid Audi, it is no reflection on the tyre one way or another. Car makers fit whatever good quality tyre on new cars they can get the best deal on.
Really good deal well spotted

This is very true, unless the tyre has been homologated for the manufacturer - such of the likes of Ferrari & Lambo (the high end!).

Even without the AO rating this is by far the cheapest I could find the correct Audi spec tyre for my car and I have been looking for over 3 months!

Bear in mind the AO spec might have a different compound so it's performance/characteristics might not be as good as the standard PS4 tyre (which is very good).
These tyres are excellent, as are all Michelins.

My Golf R was delivered from the factory on Bridgestone Potenzas, which are an atrocious tyre for wet grip, dry traction (lots of tramping on FWD cars) and noise. Having had them previously on a Golf GTD which suffered badly from tramping (and didn't after a tyre change), I decided to ditch the Bridgestones after 6k miles and put Michelin Pilot Supersports (PSS) on - the difference was night and day.

The Pilot Sport 4 (PS4) is supposed to be better than PSS (the PS4 wasn't out at the time, but i've had PS3s before and they were great). Excellent wet and dry grip - good rate of wear, and unlike some premium tyres, they aren't just good at the start of their life, they're good right down to 2mm.

For me, Michelins are the best all-round tyres out there.

It is highly unlikely that the AO spec is any different to the standard PS4 tyre. If you ask Continental or Michelin they tell you at this price range, all the tyres are the same - just markings put on for the manufacturers.

I have MO (Mercedes Option) Continental Sport Contact 5s. The official ratings for wet grip, fuel economy and noise are different to the standard Sport Contact 5s, so there has to be some differences.

Not saying it's definitely the case with these Michelins, but it does happen.

More than happy for you to contact Continental and confirm. I have already done this and all major tyre manufacturers tell me the tyres are the same! It makes no business sense for them to develop a specific tyre / production run for (in this case) a run of the mill Audi A4 Diesel.

So if the tyre is exactly the same, why would it's noise, grip and fuel economy ratings be different? Are you saying the Tyre Manufacturers are lying about these stats for one set of 2 identical tyres?

I think you will find there is more of a difference in the tyre dimensions/load rating/speed index that gives you a difference in ratings.

For example, you can buy a Michelin Pilot 4 245/40/18 97Y which has difference specs and therefore ratings to the deal I have posted above.

Here it is from the horse's mouth:

I have checked and yes you are correct, in this instance there is no difference between the AO and standard versions. They have exactly the same ratings. Therefore this is a good deal and I have added heat.

However this is not always the case (however rare it may be) and sometimes there are differences even when the load index, speed rating, dimensions etc. are the same. Think I've derailed the thread enough already so will leave it at that

No problem, it's good to clarify matters where manufacturers try and take one for a ride..especially on a deal website.

I think (as I said above) it does make a difference (not always for the better) for high performance models etc.

Does this fit other cars?

Does this fit other cars?

Yes - just because it says AO does not mean it will not fit any other car. Just think of it as a PS4 with an extra marking on it.
damn , my tyres are 240/40/18
My set of 4 have been dispatched!
Now £187 each!!
