It had to happen - but post #3? That's a bit quick!

This seller has sold over 100; he has a feedback score close to 100.
Some of the China sellers have sold 40,000, with feedback scores over 99.5%

If you're a coward, pay 20x the price. If you have common sense, check the seller, read the small print - and save a bomb.

I'll bet not one iPhone in 1000000 has been damagaed by a 'cheap' cable - even a faulty one.
And hey, find me an Apple fan without decent insurance

I used to use non apple cables until I started getting a message pop up stating that it was not official and 'could harm your phone'

While it is highly unlikely that it would do any damage, the device was recording that I was using a third party cable and how often I was using it, it could easily be used as an excuse to void my warranty for any reason.

Sorry, but if you feel that paranoid, why buy Apple?
And ask yourself what right they have to treat you that way.

If they want to install software that monitors cables, wouldn't they be better having something that says "This cable is OK" / This cable IS unsafe"?

And I repeat, these things are being sold in tens of thousands - if not millions - and the world hasn't ended yet.

WOW! never herd if that message popping up before, cheeky!

However don't forget this only charges will not sync.

Also nearly all phone chargers will not be any use in charging your iPad as the amp's are too low.

I dont have a problem with people who do not use official cables, just explaining why I do. Why don't you use android? its cheaper you know.

If you remove the diagnostic details being sent to Apple in your settings, then they have no knowledge of what you are doing, the same as people that jailbreak their device and put a tweak on that counters "non official cables".

Probably writes it to an internal storage which gets scanned when you give it to apple, jail breaking may be a decent counter to that, but thats only just become available to IOS 7 users.

Of course, but only for the Brave! diagnostics is always set internally and gets sent, however Apple possess the gadget to see it, but they are not as magical as you may believe.

Good price.

A lot of the messages you get when connecting non made for iPhone cables is more to do with apple covering its own back. If you attach a badly made cable/adaptor you're in danger and apple can't vouch for their work. The other reason must be money.

Good price though I may get a couple

Another Apple vs Android debate, bore off and leave us Apple fans alone.

Good Price but poor seller "Doesn't post to Scottish Highlands "

Do you use an official Apple tinfoil hat as well?

Bought one of these last time it was on HUKD.

Save your 99p. It doesn't work.

no deal here , cold

Can recommend the seller, bought a few things from them and always been good delivery times and not had a problem with anything I bought

Just the fact that Apple try to block you using any other charger than theirs and then rip you off with sky high prices for their kit is reason enough to avoid them like the plague for me. That and itunes :-) Dell is exactly the same when it comes to laptops and chargers and batteries.

I have 2 both working, paid £1.15 each. also use the poundland leads as do guys I work with and we are all running ios 7.4.

If you're comparing this with the Apple version, you're not comparing like with like. This is a charge and sync cable only, it won't do audio out.so its useless for use in a car for example.

My experience of third party 99p cables has been poor so far. Bought 3, binned 3.

A word in favour of iTunes. With that you can back up your apps and app data to wherever you want. I cannot do this with my Android devices without rooting. On at least one of my devices that means losing the manufacturer's warranty. iTunes can be a pain at times but it isn't all bad.

Like Jeezeypeeps I purchased 3 of these last time and they are rubbish. Seemed to render one micro-USB cable as useless and wouldn't work on others I tried. Waste of time - even at 99p I found this to be 99p wasted!

I've used these, and whilst they work, the ones I used from Poundland randomly stop charging half way through with an error message "This accessory is not supported".

Clearly these aren't identical to the official ones, otherwise there wouldn't be such problems.

So yes, whilst they are cheap, they were a pain because the cable had to be unplugged and plugged back in once it stopped charging.

You'll find that just about every laptop manufacturer is the same when it comes to laptop chargers and batteries, if you go official of course.

Well, next time you buy an apple product, tell them you don't want the warranty because you are 'not that paranoid'. As I stated in another post, I don't really care if other people use non standard cables, its their choice. You and others here seem to have a problem with people using genuine ones. What a pathetic thing to get upset about.

Must be difficult having to climb those mountains, wonder why they have no problem delivering to Wales. That is even more mountainous than Scotland, there isn't a direct road or rail link between North & South because of the terrain...

I agree it unlikely to do any damage but it would seem the message comes up due load load sensing and when a cable/adapter is unable to handle the amps required to charge. I've used 3 of these adapters on an iPad air and 2 got quite warm and the warning message popped up, the 3rd, a different brand but looks much the same, is fine - I've also had the same results with a number of cheap lightning cables. Whenever the message popped up the battery indicator did not turn green to show charging.
So I don't think turning off the diagnostic is the solution.

I don't have insurance... Oh yeah, I'm not an apple fan.

I have been using these on ipad 4 and iphone 5/5s for a few years. No issues, used with 3rd party micros USB cable. When the error message appears, I just turn the cable around in the I device and it works fine.

As stated in an earlier post, apple does not have software in the chargers so to recognise unofficial products means that the unofficial product is sending different amps into the iPhone/ipad.... This could impact a number of things like warranty, battery life, mess up the jack etc

While apple are expensive they are a better quality product, apple haters seem to have a strange view and almost envy official users, the way I see it if your paying for a high price product then you may as well maintain it well with official accessories, plus you will find you rarely need to change an apple accessory and so the cost averages out to reasonable

I agree. People should definitely pay a bit more, particularly when it comes to the charging and/or syncing of their devices. That's where cheap third party acessories have seriously messed up for people in the past; I know I'm going to get a lot of replies saying that I'm being stupidly paranoid for saying this, but cheap third party acessories have had fatal consequences before.

Don't you just love Apple and their tactics... I am sticking to Android, where you can still control your phone.

Yes you can. My android phone is not rooted, deleted everything and used factory reset. As soon as I signed in with my google account, all my apps, settings and everything else got installed automatically.

i was surprised myself, so may be a case of this feature being recently added, after you left the android boat.
