Our teams visit areas within London, Wales, Northern England and Northern Ireland to offer FREE microchipping as a part of our Community Events programme. The teams can also advise you about changing your microchip details should it be needed. Click here to find out where your nearest event is.

Your vet will also be able to microchip your dog if you cannot attend an event, but are likely to charge a fee. We also offer FREE microchipping at our rehoming centres ( excluding Basildon, Essex), all you need to do is ring up and make an appointment at your nearest centre.

Dogs Trust also microchips all dogs that come into our Rehoming Centres before they are rehomed.

So if I’m reading this right, if people donate to the Dogs Trust in good faith thinking they are helping the life of a dog they’re gong to spend your donations on free chipping?

If you can afford to own a dog you should be paying for your own chipping.
they are helping the life of the dog by chipping it, but I get what you mean - our local is full of ex chav dogs like staffs, akitas, soon to be american bull dog cross' ) who get them to look hard and badly train them, then leave them as they cant be bothered to look after them
Bring back the dog license and make it £200 to keep these chav scum from getting dogs

Unfortunately that won’t stop them and chipping is compulsory by law now anyway with a £500 fine for non compliance
Can you then control them via an app?

I can see your point, but there's too many dogs needing homes (due to idiots over breeding at home etc) it's better for a dog to live in a loving home, even if it needs subsidised. Pensioners, disabled people in fact anyone who's home a lot can make a dogs life so much better. Some dogs suffer from separation anxiety and need almost constant company. Until we can stop the overbreeding charities are the only hope these animals have.

How much does a chip cost? about the price of dog food for a couple of weeks?

Dog Trust should means test their chipping service (but this would probably cost more to implement) rather than allow anyone to ‘cash in’ on the deal funded by donations given by people who would probably like the money to go directly to a dog in need
@KatiePrice
The dog in the picture looks a bit worried about where the chip will be inserted....

But they will be the ones who will not pay it.
The only thing that bothers me about chipping is I know I would not want one in me or my children, have we really got the right to force them onto are dogs.
Dogs Trust pays it's CEO £120 -£130k. I was going to start a charity payment from my own salary and thought....hold on...

As a dog groomer I can honestly say that Pet Insurance and Micro-Chipping should be Mandatory! If you don’t bother to pay for Pet Insurance then you better be prepared to have a good savings if anything bad happens!

We do them at work and it doesn’t cost that at all! -_- it’s about £20! Unless your buying your dog cheap pet food? That’s basically animal abuse.

Putting down healthy dogs is illegal in the UK. Sadly not the case in the UK.

It's a toss up sometimes especially if you rescue. Some of the idiotic things we've been told in the past about reasons why an insurer won't cover an injury is ridiculous bordering on absurdity. But if you find the right insurer it can save you literally your life's savings.

Well that makes sense.
I read this as "matchmaking for dogs" "You come here often Rover?"

It's an organisation that seems to get results. Plenty of Charities pay much more than that and achieve zero - eg. NSPCC who do no hands on work whatsoever now - ring them up with a case and they pass it to the local Council! Lots of great "schemes" though and more advertising than Apple and Microsoft put together! :-(

Great scheme which ultimately helps stop stray dogs being destroyed by council dog pounds (Council Dog Wardens currently destroy loads of dogs where the owners cannot be located).

Naturally you'll hear when something goes wrong rather than when everything's gone right but if you could do without chipping the animal, don't give in just because it's free. Not sure what policy is on Facebook links but you can read about one particular situation here.

And they wouldn't let me have one! You have to buy a kit online cost £2 delivered (check ebay or aliexpress) Take it to a tattoo studio that does piercing and they'll put it you in as a sub dermal implant. I wouldn't recommend injecting the chip into your pet without training, although it only has to be registered on one of the databases after implantation such as petlog.org.uk … I don't think you can register yourself on there though

You are stating the repercussions of not having it done, just like you'll be fined should they find out you don't have a tv licence, that still doesn't mean you have to do either.
you could apply that to any law in this country, they cant stop you doing anything, but if caught you will suffer the repercussions of breaking that law aka fine or prison

but then again you will probably say they cant make you do time or pay the fine and will be shouting that as they drag your ass to the cells

Please do not feed your dogs micro chips... they need a proper diet of dog food in moderation. Human food is very dangerous for them....
Is it dogs only? Could do with getting my bitch chipped for when she out on the lash
