3TB Seagate Barracuda SATA £64.98 plus £5.99 p&p @ MicroDirect (Recertified)

This one dropped in my inbox and I thought the price was good though later noticed it has been recertified (assumedly not new but nearly and compliant with HDD diagnostics)

Not worth the risk.

I've found that repaired drives from Seagate do have a shorter life than brand new ones. I'd only consider one if it was less than 2/3rd of the new price and I wasn't using it for anything important. so voting cold because it's not sufficiently cheaper.

That is a lot of data to be put on a faulty HDD scratch that, recertified HDD oO

Voted cold. A cased 3TB new drive should not be more than a few pounds extra. Why take the risk with your data?

Im very fragile to venture into these waters of re certified. But il add heat for the price and size :)

290x scale better at 4k

Still think you will need more than one card to play 4k especially on max settings

290x scale better at 4k

I think the 780ti is for those wanting 4k gaming and want the very best xD

No idea. Most 780 are not too far behind. There is no way to justify the £150-200 difference

Without 4.3 this will continue to suffer I/O issues after a certain period of usage. I guess if you're adept with rooting etc then you can install custom ROMs on but that's no good for the casual user.

The Prime has had both ICS and JB official updates, honeycomb died ages ago.

At £89 you did get a good deal financially but what I would do if I were you - assuming you have all the accessories still, box and everything in mint condition, walk into CEX and flog it. I got £150 for mine about 3 weeks ago. Couldn't be bothered ebaying it and losing out on ebay/paypal fees. It wouldn't have mattered whether mine cost me £150 (CPW deal at the time) or £1, I wasn't getting any use out of it due to screen quality and lag.

Tempted but the thought of being stuck on honeycomb isn't appealing. Would have to root it and put a cyangenmod on it the potential of bricking £200+ worth of kit puts me off

Better off getting a Chromebook.

any suggestions what would be good for a dyslexic teenagered daughter who is now allowed to use a laptop at school for taking notes etc. I thought something like this might be good but lots of negative comments about slowness put me off...

As said, stick Mint (Mate, don't know if it could handle Gnome 3), or even XP on it and it will be a usable machine. I still use a N270 when I'm out and about and for general tasks (Email/Office/Browsing) its perfectly usable as long as you don't bog it down with crapware.

N570 was the fastest of the previous generation Atoms. Its actually faster than the later N2600, but when graphics speed is factored in its slower. N570 running a virus checker & browser will exceed using its gig, & slow drastically as it pages on windows 7. The chipset supports 2GB, however some Asus machines had memory fixed to the mobo & so did not offer expansion. Best N series Atom is the N2800 which supports 4GB, 600 line res can be an issue, as some sites leave you looking at a strip down the middle. While newer Atoms offer lower power usage & better graphics, if an extra gig can be added to this, it would make a viable small computer for various scenarios (tprrent server, car computer, train computer) and runs at about twice the speed of the original N270 Atom.

from my experience with netbooks; don't expect the world, and you're paying a price that reflects that. I paid 300-odd for a slightly more capable netbook back in 2009 (Compaq Mini 311), added in 4gb RAM, and used that as my main PC until march this year. Still gets used most days at work as a music player and light testing environment.

I bought my friends one of these, in which he'd upgraded the ram and put an ssd, so it boots up and runs pretty quick, all i'm going to use it for is word and very basic things like that for uni, at the end of day I wanted it to have a good battery and be portable, I've found my upgraded one great for those needs! I have a proper pc for anything a bit more demanding

I can confirm the one I got from morgan computer is in 'new condition' No scratches seen. Only thing is it does not come with original box. the rest are 'new' condition. So Far, very happy.

I have bought one online yesterday with Morgan computer for £606. Factory refurb with 1 year warranty. Arrived today and will check how good it is. Sounds better deal than op. not voted

I never buy anything but refurbs, either Dell or any other manufacturer. Never had any problems, certainly not because it was refurb, I've had one fail, but that was a problem with the graphics chip from AMD, so Dell replaced with a new laptop which has been going strong ever since. In fact before being made redundant I'd spent over £500000 over 10 years buying Dell outlet machines for various reasons, none had problems. I think my oldest refurb computer is at least 8 years old, and has been running fine, you might have to replace the odd HD, but then I'd only rely on a HD for 3 years and then replace it with new. My acer laptop refurb, bought 3 or 4 years ago, has been bounced on buses, travelled across the world and certainly for the first 3 years, used daily. Absolutely no issues whatsoever, this one is still running it's original HD because it's a bit of a pain to replace, being an ultra-portable. mike

It's not even Intel HD 4000. Freezing.

Its not a gaming machine. HD video playback is perfect esp in true 16:9

Which is a better buy note or tab please I mean is it worth paying extra im looking to buy from Tesco Thanks

Sorry ..good point this is the original Tab !

They seem to be almost identical on paper. The Note is a tiny bit thinner and imperceptibly lighter. The Note's CPU is a bit faster. I doubt if anyone on a blind test could tell much difference between the two - unless you're a power-mad speed-freak ;)

I got one of these last year and have tried various roms on it. It is easily surpassed by all the more recent tablets out there. I've got the one with the improved viewing angles but the screen generally is not great. If you are used to a modern amoled screen on your phone then you will find this a big step back. It's very low resolution as well. It only has 512mb of ram which stops it from running ICS smoothly. It does run it, but you need to be willing to invalidate your warranty to install it. In my opinion nothing runs better than the stock 2.2 on it, but then you are limited in app compatibility. That said, it's still a good price for a solid 10" tablet which, in its day, was a cracker.

Had mine a year now and been excellent. Jelly bean even exists for it but not yet tried it out. Dunno how it compares to tablets 1 year down the line tho.

How did you brick it
