Probably get 10x better for half the price in China. Cold for 4gb of RAM.

Nice spot @02wilben , thanks for posting
I have a Surface Pro 3, which is still a fabulous piece of kit. My question is whether the ram is easier to upgrade in the laptop version. Upgrading anything in the Surface Pro appears to be a nightmare - battery, memory or SSD.

This isn't any better I don't think.
However the bases are interchangeable, so you can add a gpu if you'd like?

Can remember exactly where the RAM is placed.

It's worse.

The fabric keyboard has to be pealed away. RAM is soldered on anyway.

I have the 8GB version and it's the best laptop I've ever owned. The screen aspect ratio really improved working on a laptop.

RAM is soldered in both so not user upgradeable.

This is the Surface laptop not the Surface Book. It is a standard laptop in that you can't detach the screen.
Id choose a lenovo x1 gen 3 over this
This got a -1 on iFixit for repairability/upgradability. It is literally glued together and totally fixed. For the actual machine it’s not a bad price, but no idea why they released a 4GB model. Also the alcantara gets dirty and looks terrible after a few months (see a display model for an idea).
4gb is not enough ram. I have back light bleed and microsoft wont fix it.
Much, much better value getting the Xiaomi Air 13.3" - much better spec at a lower price and still excellent build quality.

Ahh my bad!
Spec is terrible for the price. Looked at them and the Surface Book (lovely, but even worse price-wise) An HP Envy 13 - far better for the money (when they're on sale, too!)
Windows 10S only lets you install apps from the MS store.... You'll need to buy a new OS immediately if you wan't to do anything useful.

Pretty sure the free update to Windows 10 Pro is ongoing until the end of the month.

That's a good option then.

What an idiotic idea Windows 10S was!

Free indefinitely, the model for 10S has changed, its no longer a different sku but a mode. But the change from S to Regular is at no cost now
