Game Pass is a digital download :-)
They had the chance to store this on airplane themed USB stick! I will be playing this but on Game Pass - with no previous history of playing any Plane (or any type of) Simulator - you can bet I will be the owner of the ultimate edition within a week haha.

Blurays have only just come out, so i doubt many gamers have them yet.

90gb. It makes absolutely no sense for this disc edition as there'll probably be a 50gb day one patch!

150gb. I'm pondering whether to go the physical route. That would tie up my internet for days. Throw in Microsoft's pathetic policy of being unable to transfer downloaded game installs and if you have more than one computer you'll be downloading for months.

Isn't that install size? As download and install sizes are often different due to compression used

If they're dual layer discs then around 90gb is accurate. Can't speak for install size.

The first mass-market Blu-ray Disc rewritable drive for the PC was the BWU-100A, released by Sony on July 18, 2006. You used to see Blu Ray drives on higher spec laptops such as Sony models around 10-12 years ago, now almost nobody bothers with Blu Ray drives, because much faster broadband exists and everything went from requiring a physical copy to downloading.

There are some documentaries around that suggest Microsoft deliberately prolonged the HD DVD Vs Blu-ray war depite knowing the future was digital download and streaming, and knowing that the more Sony invested in the format the less chance they had of getting any kind of return on investment.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory. The Playstation 5 will have an Ultra HD Blu Ray drive.
I have to give this a thumbs down. The game is coming to Gamepass when released. I can get the game pass for £1 first month and £3.99 there after. With more games to play along with this. I'd only recommend this if you don't have a good internet connection or limited download restrictions.

If your a hardcore fan of the franchise and must have a physical copy then okay. But the price i think is steep for a new game.

It's a slippery slope, soon you'll be selling your kids and kidneys on the dark web to get addons for it

If you're crazy about flight sims it is. I've been playing them since I was like 4 years old, fs 98/00
I'm genuinely at a complete loss whether I should buy this. I was looking at the announced release a few days before this and decided it was nailed on I'd be acquiring it on or soon after release.

But that was before I found out how huge it is and what it seems to imply. The inference I've drawn is however you acquire it, you have to connected to the net to either play it at all or, if you aren't, it's a significantly degraded experience.

So why would you want to have all the disks running to about 90GB or whatever if it doesn't allow standalone mode or standalone is a bit crud? Is it just that it removes the requirement to download that huge amount and that if you have to reinstall you can just slap in the discs again?

I'm not data capped but the broadband speed I have isn't superfast - 38MB/s top - so I don't know how well that'll work out.
Available on gamepass ultimate for free, so can play on PC and SeriesX when it comes out, don't need a beefy pc, SeriesX has a higher gpu than 2080 super
Put simply most people will probably use Azure for the scenery. The alternative, which admittedly will offer a more stable experience, is to download it. But this will take up a fair chunk of your HD, on top of the 150GB install size of the base game.
Glad I forked out for the 1TB nVME!
