Answer is very simple, why someone buys BMW instead of FIAT even these both have four tyres and one steering wheel etc.

what size is it? Would a 17" laptop fit it?

Poundland have this type of thing.

]http//ww…nts suggests the size is 11.4" x 11.4" so ideally if it can manage 15" then it should manage 17".

The Microsoft one does look slick, but I guess your not gonna really see it are you.

I bought one from Amazon that doubles up as a Laptop Stand that raises the screen to make the viewing angle alot more comfortable if you've ever had any neck issues with laptops.

Not the greatest build quality, 4 extra USB ports, but does a good job as a cooler & a laptop stand.

Must say , never even knew these existed, sounds really useful though so ordered one, cheers

Thanks, I need one of these!

So it's USB powered, powered off the laptop, making it work harder, making it hotter?

i'd prefer a fiat to a bmw anyday

Another case of being sold things that you actually, should never need?

Seriously, if you need this to cool a laptop, where are you working, or what's wrong with your laptop? This product should never be needed.

Plus additional battery drain.

It's just another product you don't really need. If your laptop is getting too hot then something is obviously wrong. Try cleaning the fan out for a start and save £14.99!

I've had two Belkins now and they've both been faulty. The fan seems to go after about an hours use and makes a horrible noise.

I have never really noticed that my laptop was that hot that I needed to cool it by a third party cooling device.

If your laptops crashing cos of heating up.............send it back.

Cold as its just another con...............laptops should not need these or should be sold with them if it was that important.......:?

I've put ya name down for a chocolate fire guard that I'm going to start selling.......:whistling::whistling:

You can't just send a laptop back because its hot - especially after the 12 months warantee.

Every laptop I've owned has started getting very hot after around 18 months of use - and the laptop my sister has wrecked gets extremely hot after around 5 minutes of use.

These are useful on paper - whether they actually work or not is another matter but there are genuine needs for this sort of thing.

Very effective if your laptop gets too hot which many do, I would recommend an Antec Notebook Cooler as these are near silent ( a must ) and efficent. Plus 3 year warranty.

Nope, it won't have to 'work harder' at all. It's using a bit of power, the CPU, HDD etc won't be doing anything more than usual.

As for battery life, it's fairly obvious this is the sort of thing one would use at a desk, where it's reasonable to expect that you'd have the notebook plugged in anyway. That being said, a similar effect can be achieved just by propping up the back end of the notebook anyway. I always used to use a few coasters or CD cases. Just means a bit more air can get to the vents, meaning the system is kept a bit cooler and the fan doesn't need to spin so much.

I just use two empty epson ink cartridges located under the feet at the back (they are about 2cm thick), as someone said earlier, you cant see the stand so who cares. It props up the laptop nicely and allows the laptops own cooling system to work even better.

You do know that the Fiat Group owns the Alfa Romeo, Maserati, & Ferrari marques, don't you?

I had a USB laptop cooling base a few years ago. It made little difference to the laptop I was using & the machine still over-heated. The base has three rotating discs & just made a noise.

However, I would recommend, if your laptop has the ability to do so, & subject to the usage at the time (for example, just browsing the World Wide Wait), that changing the power options so that the CPU is used to conserve battery life instead of optimising performance will make a significant different to the heat generated from the internal components (once they have had the chance to cool down from the previous power settings).

Even just switching off the machine for five minutes, & powering-up from this cooler temperature, will mean the machine does not generate the same heat & the internal fan will not need to run as often.

As well as this approach I now use a set of "Cool Feet" made by BlueLounge:

[ bluelounge.com/coo…php ]

Search Amazon.co.uk for "BlueLounge Cool Feet Silver" to see a Marketplace sellers' listing.

BFN,

fp.

How much are they 'normally' then???

Cos if this is the standard price then its not really a deal is it???

Jeez..,...must be a nightmare trying to balance it all on your lap !!

I have the Belkin Cooler and it hardly cools my laptop plus the fan is loud, but does make a good laptop stand.

Jeez..,...must be a nightmare trying to balance it all on your lap !!

I have a netbook for that! The main laptop's hooked up to a 28" monitor and never moves hence the cartridges.

i wedge a book under the front of the laptop so it's raised from the surface....cheap but effective

I have the 3 fan version and it was really cheaply made after a few mods it worked fine and my laptop cooling fan did not kick in so often and on hot summer days it is a must as with any appliance if the ambient air temperature around it is hotter the cooling fan will have too work harder.

At the moment mine is propped up at the back as the fan blades kept catching inside the cheap plastic casing so i've taken it to peices to rebuild. I notice that the fan kicks in quite a lot now i'm not using it so yes they help also would not buy a single fan a triple fan model is better as different laptops/notebooks have their fan located in different area's underneath also mine gets warmest around where the proccessor is located HD and battery barely get midly warm and before anyone suggest yes the laptop fan is clear of dust etc.

Yep i would recommend them but go for the 3 fan version and one that has the fans enclosed ie so you can use it on your lap as well not voted as the Belkin one has been down to £5.99 on play at one point and anything more than £10 i don't think they are worth it it's just cheap chinese tat generally.

Really, how much are they doing them for?

Not a cooling version, but I have ]this and use it everyday with my Macbook.

Personally i never use a laptop without it having warranty. If you have taken warranty then just let your laptop overheat and you will get it replaced/repaired with same or better part like i always have been doing! I did not like my keyboard i got it replaced, felt my mic was not working got that also replaced and same as my hdd, heard it making clicking noise once in a while, got that replaced with bigger one and motherboard.. All covered in warranty!

correcteramundo.....The fan uses power from laptop making it overheat kicking the internal fan to boot .... noisier too...better off buyin a support from pound land without fan which simply allows air to circulate...thats all that's needed..

The current laptops with intel processors do not seem to get hot at all.

if you have a laptop with amd or slightly older intel processor as I do, they do get pretty warm on the bottom, no its not excessive and it doesnt crash, but its warmer that i would like

So i use a laptop cooler. a tiny breeze underneath makes the underneath as cool as, its just a tiny fan and makes no real difference to battery life

Pesonally I like my laptops to keep me warm so i can turn the heating off
