Gotta love the title

Check your employer if they have a deal with Microsoft... e.g. I can get this for £8.95

My Employer was the 1st in the UK to get this.

They gave a FREE copy to every Employee - all 11,000 of us!!

No need to pay anything for this - COLD

My employer gives us all VW Passat's. Does that mean if one appears on here for better than half price, it's a cold deal?

I voted cold because this guy told me to!

My employer gave me ***k all but my son bought this from software4students (yes he's a student) and the deal looks pretty good to me. Having said that, can't see much difference between this and Office 2007 - which lets face it isn't a lot better than Office 2003 so if you're thinking of upgrading...

There is a difference - it takes about 20 times longer to load up!

You lost 2 cds and expect a refund???!!! :confused...

Me too?!!. Bought this for my daughter last year from SFS with no problems whatsoever

The company I work for also has a home user offer for Office with Microsoft and it would cost me 12Euro to download a copy, but the license is only for one machine and only lasts as long as the company's contract with Microsoft.

Ok, the company will probably never use anything else than Microsoft Office, but if I leave and go and work for somebody else, on paper my license would expire - it's company specific.

As such I think this Software4Students deal is pretty good.

It won't arrive in the box as pictured, you will recieve just the discs. I checked the microsoft website before purchasing and yes SFS is a genuine site with whom they have a link to

64bit is download only, I bought mine recently from here too along with Win7 and its a great site.

It is a great deal, the license from SFS is for two users, so not only does it benefit my daughter on her laptop but also me for my pc

Hardly hot when these student deals are available year on year, whatever the current offering is.

It's true but at the end of the day, this post whether it has been posted before or not is a good deal, and if somebody saves some money because of it then surely that's the whole point of the site.

Then lets do away with the search button then.

Op isn't comparing like for like, they're suggesting a huge saving but that's on the full price offering to all via, say, PC world.

Shouldn't it be compared to other student editions? If so then its not a hot deal.

It's definitely worth checking as a lot of larger companies offer this but don't always do a great job of letting their staff know. The £8.95 is for a download copy, you don't get CDs.

it says 'not exclusively to students'. what does it mean by that as I thought you could only get it if you were one? usually you need a student email address

Just because the OP has put that in the title doesnt make it true/right! Show me where it says that on the site? It doesnt!

It means you don't need an @ac.uk email address to sign up so it's suitable for those with school age children rather than just HE students. To qualify you basically just need someone of school age in the house who "may" use the computer from time to time

Don't forget the £1.95 transaction fee, or should that be the "We're going to add another £1.95 for the hell of it, because we've now got you at the checkout" fee.

Good price, but dishonest company.

Not even in the house - it's very wide indeed, and checks are very limited:

Who can buy software at Software4Students?

Primary and Secondary students: All currently registered students of primary and second level schools in the UK

University and college students: All currently registered students of universities and colleges in the UK

Parents, grandparents and guardians: If you are a parent or guardian or have a grandson or granddaughter for whom you would like to license the software, then you can purchase the software. The main requirement to purchase is that the end user licensee must be a student or be a faculty member in one of our listed educational institutions.

About Validation

Why do Software4Students validate orders?

In order to continue to make great value software available to all our customers, Software4Students must ensure that customers meet the license requirements of our suppliers. As a result we validate all orders prior to fulfillment, this affects roughly 3% off all orders, which in certain cases we may require further information from you in order to process your order. This process can, in rare circumstances, result in either a cancellation and refund of your order or a delay of up to 21 days before you receive your products.
What validation requirements are in place?

The validation requirements differ from product to product, but all are necessary to ensure that Software4Students can continue to supply great value software. In general Software4Students will checks all information entered to ensure that the end user will is in full time education, or is the parent, guardian or teacher of a students in full time education. If unusual or potentially suspicious activity is detected, e.g. a customer buying a higher than normal number of products then Software4Students will place the order in validation required until we can be certain that the end user meets the license requirements.

Most people should be able to find some way of qualifying.

Yeah, the difference are pretty minimal. You get a proper file "menu" now, the ribbons are slightly more consistent between applications, and there is something else that works better between applications. On the whole this would have been a nice little service pack, but most certainly it does not justify a new version.

I would however say that Office 2007 is a lot better than 2003, once you get used to it. It certainly is rather different.

It is for students or their parents, as long as the students are using the software. I guess you can also install it on a family PC, and since you cannot install two versions, the parents can also use it for non-commercial purposes? But that is only a guess - the license is actually impossible to read, because it consists of several unconnected and inconsistent documents.

That is not my experience with this company, They delivered my order very quickly indeed and answered my emails enquiry within a few hours of my sending it.

If you work for an organisation who uses mircosoft products on there PC's then it is highly likely that they could get deal through microsoft which enables its employees to acquire a copy of office 2010 professional for ~£9 - this is downloadable but you can get the software on media for ~ £10 extra.

Having said that I actually think Office 97-2003 is better. The 2007/2010 version has an almost impossible graphical interface, takes forever to find the options you want.....

Were do you stand if you have one computer running windows 7 32bit and the other 64bit. Do you get two separate keys.

I have to disagree with this TBH, new people turn up here all the time who will not have heard about SFS or these MS deals, why should they be denied the chance to buy what is in effect a good deal because a few people object to seeing the item posted frequently?

I would say...... if you don't like this deal being posted why bother looking at it and commenting? Just ignore the deal!

With this version of office 2010 you are allowed to install a copy on 2 machines in the household, when you install you are given the choice to choose 64 or 32 bit, so you could install one on a 32 bit PC and the other on a 64 bit PC using the same keys.

I think that is a bit unfair TBH, you are only charged the £1.95 if you choose to have the software on a disc and posted to you, if you object to this charge then just abort the transaction? It's nowt compared to the extra charges that some companies impose under their P&P charges.

Also I ordered a copy of W7 and office and was not charged the fee.

IMHO Dishonest would be if the £1.95 was not notified to you and you only found out when you checked your CC statement!

The 32-bit version works superbly on 64-bit Windows and is actually a superior product unless you're into absolutely gigantic spreadsheets. Have a quick Google on the subject.
