Many universities use Office 365 for e-mail, but it really depends on the institution. If they use Google, for example, you probably won't have access to Office 365.

The same for school children - if your council provides Office 365 to schools, they can probably use it at home as well. In Scotland most councils use Glow - kids can then use their Glow accounts with Office 365, but again it depends on the council.

You need an academic email that is the only stipulation or restriction, which via the OU mine came through google and I have been using this for 2 years.

Yes, but I have a vague memory that OU are in the process of migrating to Office 365 for e-mail as well. See oustudents.com/off…ess suggesting OU has a deal to allow students access to O365.

At last! A legitimate deal for Microsoft software!

Yeah create a student email address.

Forename dot surname @ x college/University dot ac dot uk
This has always been the case. Something in remind our trainees on induction but it's amazing how many of them have bought a family subscription at 60 pounds a year in advance if their studies

I believe the institution needs to have signed up for the agreement also, but most probably have anyway.

Nice to see an MS Office employee being active on the site
If you don't have a valid academic email you could always get it free anyways through other means Office 2016 etc *cough*

Surely they validate the email!
Microsoft Office is a complete joke. I use an open source program instead. Much better and completely free!
How does one become a 'student'?

Kindest regards
I am curious if a teacher can renew this every year indefinitely?

Am starting my PGCE course next year so, this would be very helpful .=)

Have open office fixed the word count issue, as the last time I tried it there was no automatic word count unlike MS office. As word counts are used by most students it always surprised me that they managed to copy MS office in such great detail and miss something as important as that.

Word Count works fine for me. It's what i was using at Uni even though they gave me a free copy of Office with my MacBook.

They are both free, so I suppose whatever suits really. I tried open office and the lack of word count put me off instantly they may well of updated it now, hopefully.
Slightly off topic but I found out that Office Personal edition is reduced to 9.99 if you have a .gov.uk email address today. Again, I don't think this is a new thing.

My university uses Google yet, students and staff are still able to use Office 365 so it's worth checking

It might be free with your company email - worth checking. Simply sign to office 365 and install
This might be a silly question....my daughter is in primary school ..is she eligible for a student license ...sorry ..am kinda novice in this

So not on screen as in MS, it is easier to have it to look at when working to a word count rather than having to repeatedly check it. Anyway you are happy with that and I am happy with MS Office and neither of us pay for them so win win.

Trying to do pivot tables on Open/Libre office is a joke unfortunately.

I've recently moved from Windows to a Mac, and had office 2013 before.

Numbers is a joke! Open office can't handle the data that i need to compute.

Even trying to "remove duplicates" is a task.

Currently using free trial of 365.

You can turn word count on so it shows at the bottom like in MS just that i've never used it as i found it to distracting. I'd rather type out my essay first and then go back and shorten it.

If your school provides email with an office 365 owa login, then you can get it without having to do anything other than login and download the software. You can use it on up to 5 devices... As stated, also comes with OneDrive. As standard, it's set to the 1tb version of OneDrive, but this can be altered by the institution... I personally have a 5tb OneDrive account, but it can also be out much lower...
Must just be for lecturers as it says my teachers email is invalid.
