Is this for a 1 year subscription only. Or do you own the software for ever? Thanks.

is this for 1 year?

It doesn't mention anywhere, but is this just a 1 year license?

Original Poster

Yes 1 year.

Wow this is a hot deal, list price is £80 per year, usually sells for around £60 per year! Bargain

Remember Microsoft are upgrading Office 365 Home subscription so it comes with 1TB of online storage for EACH of your five users.

You can also buy multiple codes and stack them (so if you buy two, your can enter them both and subscription will last until 2016), so if you buy a couple of them at £40 per year, that works out as £3.33 per month for all of the office applications (and future upgrades), online storage and 60 skype minutes a month.

Hot!

Hmm sorry for a stupid question.
Apparently it's a one year subscription.
How much does it cost after that year? How does it work?

Usually £80 a year, but if you buy two (or more) of these you can stack them so for the next few years you only pay £40 a year. And in that time I'm sure a special offer like this will come round again!

That's a bloody rip off to pay for same software every year.
Thank you very much for an answer

I bought the other version of this for my Mac - no subscription, lasts forever and was £82.

But beware the next version of Microsoft Office is rumoured to be releasing around September/October.

Great deal. I've been paying £7.99 a month for the same thing! Great idea to stack subscriptions too.

your also getting 1TB each of online storage for upto 5 family members, not bad if you share the costs between you all.

If you say so... retail versions of the software cost hundreds so £40 a year is cheap in comparison. And it's not the same software - if Microsoft update office, you'll get the new version for free.

To look at it another way, I backup my photos online and I used to pay £32 a year for 100GB of storage, so to get 1TB of online storage AND the whole Microsoft Office Suite (for myself and four friends... uh... I mean.. people in my household ;-) hehe) And office for iPad/iPhone, all for £40 a year. That is, I believe, a HotUKDeal TM!

Cheers

I don't trust uploading my personal stuff and especially somewhere online.
Have 320gb 2.5 inch external drive for that
New versions are being released only to cash in because there's nothing new in it.
What else can Microsoft Word do? oO

Hope you keep that external drive offsite as it wont be of much use in the case of a fire or theft.

I keep my photos online (as a backup to my 2 x external drive backups), with a decent password and 2 step authentication I wont loose much sleep thinking they're unsafe. The pro's outway the con's to me as they're irreplacable.

when are they upgrading to 1TB on skydrive? Isn't it only 20gb at the moment?

They've said 'during the month of July' - I believe some of the Microsoft Office 365 Professional users have already got the upgrade, for the rest of us I'm sure it'll role out in the next few weeks.

If you have a student in the house, you can get Office 365 Student Edition for £59.99 that lasts 4 years.

Only two devices though!

Why does these cost so much????
I hardly use it but do need it.

I might aswell go to a linearly and use them for free.

Ironically enough, I kinda wondered on this myself on this Microsoft 'Yearly Subscription' thang when Microsoft Introduced this concept of theirs to the World just over 1.5 Years back? .. but ahhhhhhhh well?

For more than a year, Microsoft has offered a free version of its popular software suite Office. The only problem is, it was difficult to find.
That’s now changed as the Redmond, Washington-based tech giant recently rebranded the free version of Office Online easily available through a website. CBSnews.com reported.
The software includes Word, Outlook, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Excel.

I currently have this and my subscription runs out in September, if I purchase this can I just enter the key and it will extend it by 12 months from September so I do not need to reinstall anything?

Why is Office 365 and the yearly rental subscription format better than, say, Office 2010 which is buy-to-own? Better still, Open Office (et al) which are free?

Say if I buy this & they upgrade the office suite in September will I get the update free or what happens?

At £80 a year, it isn't better... as you'd end up paying more than just buying a stand alone version of office. At £40 a year, if you'd make use of the extras like 1TB OneDrive Subscription and Skype minutes, then it's much more worthwhile. Also remember this is meant to be a household subscription, so it can be used by five people. (that's 5x installations of microsoft office on 5 different pc's/macs, plus 5x 1TB One drive subscription).

But then again... nothing's better than free, so if you like open office, go with it.

What about open office ? Totally free forever and is the exact same thing as Microsoft's office.

As for pictures etc. Use flickr as it has a free 1tb of storage that you and others can share. Myself and the wife take pics and they go straight up to flickr.

I won't vote for it either way as its not for me. I am not now or ever have been a fan of Microsoft products.

Does this have an expiry date? So I buy now, can I then activate and so begin the 12 months in say November, later this year? Thanks.

That doesn't matter for office365 as it's a subscription based service, you get to use office as long as your subscription is active and as part of that you get to download the latest version as soon as it becomes available on the service.

You'll NEVER convince these people man. Often people aren't willing to listen to common sense nor do they deserve to. It's the sort who think walking around with a cup of costa makes them posh or paying for software which can be paid for full use with updates or even free is somehow lesser so. I mean flickr? omg who uses that, they want the CLOOOUUUD. Yeah flickr is basically "cloud".

Ordered a couple of years worth. We share it amongst all the families pcs, bargain at £40 a year, especially with the free skype minutes.

Scorchio!! Thanks!

However be aware, the versions online are vastly crippled compared to the real versions, and only works with a valid internet connection.
