They are similar models (built around the same core components)

Using the X3 now, good mouse, would go for the X5 at the price above though

I didn't get on with the X3 as the side buttons (usually used as back and forward in the browser) were in an awkward place as I have big hands.

could you use it comfortably as a normal mouse, or is it really only set for gaming ?

I have, like and use the Sidewinder X3 but I'm going to order the Curry's offer Sidewinder X5, shown above by paul124, as it's a bargain at that price. Cheers Paul.

Gaming needs a mouse to be smoother and more responsive and you are constantly holding and moving it.
So yes it will be fine for everyday use as a normal mouse.
But if you dont need something for gaming you may as well get an even cheaper mouse.

I have the X8 and it's the best mouse I have used to date
remember that a good mouse mat is ignored by most people but really improves things
I use it with a steelseries s&s
