Microsoft Small Basic: Programming Is Fun - Free Download

Microsoft Small Basic puts the "fun" back into computer programming. With a friendly development environment that is very easy to master, it eases both kids and adults into the world of programming.

Simple

Small Basic combines a friendly environment with a very simple language and a rich and engaging set of libraries to make your programs and games pop. In a matter of few lines of code, you will be well on your way to creating your very own game!

Social

Share your programs with your friends; let them import your published programs and run them on their computer. Using the Silverlight player, you can even post your games on your blogs and websites for them to play your creations in the browser.

Gradual

Learn the programming concepts starting with the fundamentals and move your way up. Small Basic is based on .NET and what you learn here could be easily applied to other .NET programming languages like Visual Basic. And when you do graduate to Visual Basic, you can bring your existing programs with you using a built-in conversion utility.

Thanks a lot
great little find and I'm going to use it .
Thanks again

thanks just downloaded.

Excellent find. Thank you.

I simply can't imagine the possibility that "programming is fun".

You don't enjoy the challenge of solving puzzles? What about the feeling you get when you successfully create a program that works?

Brill. My son asked me how games were written so I'll start him off with something like this.

Nice one, looks ideal for teaching the basics, do the schools use this by any chance?

thanks!

I'm guessing you're a girl . . .

You make that sound like an insult.

Is there something wrong with being a "nerd"? Why don't you have a look at some of the richest men in the world; Bill Gates & Steve Jobs. Very "nerdy" men, also extremely successful. Imagine having more money than you know what to do with.

Have tried Gamemaker, got an invite to android app inventor and now this pops up. I'm gonna be busy trying all this stuff. Can't wrap my head around real programming so things like these will have to do. Thanks for the hint

Not a nerd, though I can be a bit of a troll!

Ooh, get you!

just learn python, processing or perl, both are better than this rubbish.

Brilliant find - my son (23 now and a programmer) would have love this years ago when we used to buy him things like Click and Play and anything else to help his programming ambition, they didn't have these sorts of things then - voted hot from me

Massive FAIL!!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid techies are

So, this is aimed at kids who have never programmed before, they have instructions etc on how to use the program......BUT they forgot to explain how to download and unpack the app.....

unbelievable own goal

actually you assume far too much, i know more about computers than you ever will thank you

anyway it was a prob with my winrar/win7 64bit install - sorted the prob....easy really..for some strange reason my winrar app was being associated to the .msi file rather than windows installer...essentially using the wrong app to uninstall the .msi - mystified as to why at the mo as its never done that before

Oh. That does sound so complicated.

nope took me 2 mins to sort

We'd have all sorted it in 1 minute, even though you know more about computers than we ever will, thankyou

Nice, cheers. Gonna try and get my son into some coding.

Then, then... then we can get Lego Mindstorms for Christmas!

seriously? lock your kids into the microsoft trap early on? a life of making crappy software.

probably great to get a grip of the concepts - but move onto java, c plus Linux admin ASAP.

I thought microsoft couldn't stoop any lower, havent they been fined anough?

exactly, you wouldn't give crack to your kids, so don't teach them to program with this.

Great way to get into programming! Very good find!
