Yep very true. Depends on your needs I suppose, the S2 Pro is thicker and heavier, so not as good for actual tablet use. I've had a 32GB S2 for a year now, and it's a great device. Unless you need the latest games etc from an iPad, the S2 actually does a lot more, despite the RT haters. Having a full accessible file system, usb 3 port, hdmi out, and a full browser with flash (this gets around a lot of the absent apps) you've got a fairly versatile device compared to other tablets out there.

if you have access to a virtual desktop you can bypass the host windows RT OS completely. Of course the app has to either work with the tab or its hosted/ accessible through the internet.

definitely a horses for courses kind of tablet - but is definitely the best price around, £70 for a keyboard too.

student version for £350 as well, plus 5% cashback on TCB and Quidco etc

Win 8 RT avoid.

Good price, shame it's running windows RT, it's dead in the water.

Yes, me for example. I really don't understand why anybody would go for RT if you can get real Windows for a little more.

RT....sucks wolf's cookies.

it has its uses yes but you could spend same on a premium Android tablet that may actually serve you better.
as it is its too expensive.
Why they (MS) don't just drop this and stick to baytrail Atoms I just don't know.

It might be a good price but not hot for me... I mean these things (although the 32gb version) were on Amazon USA, sold by microsoft, for $199 this week. Unfortunately they don't ship to the UK, but even including a service like Shipitto this is probably cheaper. A great piece of kit for a less-fun-but-more-productive-than-an-android tablet, but not at £364...

I got the Dell Venue Pro 11 i5 4300Y 128Gb with mobile broadband for £287 off ebay from an official Dell refurb outlet last week. Not sure I am allowed to post the link...but not hard to find. Really is a beautiful piece of kit to consider, and Full Windows 8.1.

Hold on, so you can get a better spec by paying more money? Explain this concept, I think we could change the world, next you'll be telling me there's savings to be made buying in bulk, you crazy cat

The one from USA with the £30 delivery charge?

it's 329 in pcworld

Horrible. Gone hot because people have seen it and assumed it was the Surface Pro 2, which can be had for not that much more at the moment.

Sorry OP.

Yes, I'm usually cynical about posts of that nature as well, but I think it's worth noting that this is like comparing a three pound box of rocks to a four pound box of chocolates. You're gonna have to really need some rocks to prefer this deal.

Yeah but buying this is false economy. Any serious user (not your grandma) who buys this, will regret not buying a proper tablet months down the line, and splurge cash on a new proper tablet.

And therein lies the rub doesn't it?
This isn't FOR a serious user. It's for your grandma... she can do anything, and it's as virus proof as an Ipad, but will still work with EVERY web page. Seriously tempted by a surface RT model for the parents for Christmas.
Would save me a ton of tech support calls...!

That is a LOT better spec(and much better OS and pen capability etc etc) for only a little more money though!

I was thinking of buying one of these for a relative but the price is still ridiculous.

This is £150 too much. As above the proper surface pro 2 is much better value.

as a tablet its perfect, if you want a full blown PC then it doesn't quite stack up - but can still do more than other tablets and is lighter/ better looking than most PC's of the same price.

Even an iPad is far more functional then this. But the iPad isn't a full blown PC either. So you probably might want to rethink your last statement. ("Still can do more than other tablets")

What can ipad do that this can't? (and i don't mean that argumentatively, genuinely curios..)

Google something like "ipad vs windows rt". (In case anyone is wondering, I am not an Apple fanboy or anything, quite the opposite actually.)

It has access to the best tablet app market for touch centric apps. The iPad is the number one market for professional tablet apps and for example in the Music creation world there are a lot of apps and hardware peripherals for Apple only.
Android can't compete and Windows RT is in chocolate teapot territory by comparison.
I don't like Apple but this is the way things are from what I can tell, at least for now.

This seems fairly redundant as buying a premium priced tablet for basic tasks only due to its limitations seems a waste unless you will use the included version of MS Office a lot maybe!

Good price for this version, because it has integrated 4G and will offer convenient simple mobile use. It's being compared to a pro version that doesn't have 4G which is getting a bit apples and oranges.

That's dumb. Why not have integrated 4g in the pro? Microsoft Muppets epic fail

When the pro 2 becomes available then I'll be interested, they seem to be better for running linux than other windows tablets

I'm sure you meant to say, ios runs a few professional apps (by that I mean business /enterprise apps) and a windows 8 tabs runs nearly all of them depending on your specifications. Anyone doing proper works uses a mac or Windows PC. A tablet does not compete it in most cases, unless it's windows 8 so a surface pro etc. Imo this product is for a person who likes simplicity, mobility, light document work, emails videos,. Anyone who wants more power, future proof, wants full windows 8 should look for the surface pro 2 tablets! They going at bargain prices.

I was answering a specific question about this tablet which runs Windows RT versus an iPad but you've strayed off topic and are talking about Windows 8 tablets which is a completely different topic!
