Currys/PC World have reduced their Surface 2 range by another tenner:

32GB £249
64GB £329

With O2 Priority Moments currently offering £20 off a spend of £200 this takes it down to :

32GB £229
64GB £309

Making it the cheapest around again.

Comes with 200GB Onedrive for 2 years and unlimited Skype minutes and Skype wifi and Office including Outlook.

Good for someone that wants a tablet with a lot of functionality but not ready to splash out on a Pro 3.

There is a 5% student discount through UniDays
currys.co.uk/gbu…tml (£12.50 off 32GB, £16.50 off 64GB) but doubt you can use both that discount and O2 (and O2 is bigger discount at £20).

Don't forget - if you're not a current o2 customer, you can get o2 priority easy if you order a free PAYG sim and have an unlocked handset. Insert the sim, activate it for free, and download the app over wifi so you don't have to top up.

o2 priority for everyone!

I recall from previous posting of a reconditioned one with a 3 month warranty, that John Lewis are offering a 3 year warranty on this rather than standard 1 year from Dixons Carphone , which people MAY prefer to the idea of a £20 discount.

Ooops - just double checked and back to 2 year at JL, still better than 1.

You are right - many may want a longer discount for the sake of £20 and the John Lewis post is pretty darn hot:

It is HUKD after all though, so cheaper price here will appeal to many.

Defintely worth it as pcworld/currys returns policy is a joke

had a Samsung tablet 3which had a faulty charger, cable is fine - just wanted a replacement charger - but oh no you they to send the whole tablet, charger and cable back to their repairs - ive heard horror stories about that eg which you wont see for weeks and itll come back scratch after they've used it as a frizbee

requested a replacement via Samsung in the end - I cant see dsg lasting long

id rather pay £20 extra with JL even if the warranty is the same

To be fair - that is often standard practice. The charger on my Asus Taichi went. I went through Asus rather than Currys in the hope of a replacement and they wanted the whole device sent to them (to check the fault is definitely just the charger). Annoyed me - but got it back in a week and all was ok.
Just got a surface pro £369

you cant see dsg lasting long?

you realise they have just combined with carphone warehouse and are effectively now the biggest electrical retailer in europe?
love em or hate em, they ain't gonna go anywhere.

they nearly did a few years ago (i was working in a currys digital at the time), they were about 48 hrs from closing until they did a deal with the bank.
Terrible tablet.

There you go then. All they've really done is bought themselves some time.

DSG are a dinosaur. They're just HMV and GAME in another sphere of retail. When the world is moving full steam towards online, they're still treating their business as they did in the 90's.

Anecdotal, I know, but I don't know anyone who buys anything from DSG now. At best, they're used as a means to test out new TVs, before heading off to buy online for hundreds of pounds less. Hundreds of pounds less.

I have a very vivid memory of working in the DSG in the 90's, and the manageress of the store I worked in flat out refused to believe that shopping would move online. "It'll never happen", she said. "People will always prefer to walk through those doors", she said.

Yeah. Sure.
Is it really worth spending 100-150 more than for an 8" tab with full windows 8.1 ??
these are windows RT? not even worth £50 let alone £250

I would pay for for this than an iPad or an Android tablet.

then you clearly dont like using any apps, RT is even more of a wasteland than amazon appstore

Funny as its not always about the apps...
The Microsoft store has the most important ones bar a few but that list is getting smaller daily.
Has your Ipad got usb?
I have an ipad and a nexus 7 but I do like my Surface, so much so I upgraded to a Surface 2.
Microsoft mis advertised RT and the worst mistake was still showing a desktop as it confuses simpletons, which when you talk 'tech' is the masses.
RT works, I am typing on it now, way faster than on my ipad.
I use it far more than my ipad for getting stuff done.
RT is actually good, if you know its a tablet - do we expect an ipad to be a MacBook?
nope, so why do people think Microsoft's 'tablet' will do desktop stuff?
Do you get 10 hrs a month of free streaming music 'officially' on an ipad - and be able to pick your own choice of songs?
On the Surface you do.
I do get frustrated when people **** off devices without really trying them, I may be wrong but most people who use the Surface do actually like them if they forget about it being a Desktop PC.

i use windows

i use windows 8 on my laptop so i know how much of a wasteland the market is, windows phone and windows rt are even worse. all fine if you just want to browse and stuff, otherwise get the full windows surface tablets instead.

meanwhile on my nexus 7 i can use usb mouse/keyboard/ps3 pad, or bluetooth them up for wireless and then have access to anything and everything i want
My point is for the price, you get Office 2013, 10 hrs free music streaming and more than enough decent apps -
Netflix, BBC, 4OD, Channel 5, Flipboard news reader, One drive, loads of games, Tune in radio, loads of streaming movie/tv apps if you know where to look and if you change the region to USA and access their app store marketplace, most of the USA tv streaming once you run a vpn or dns - CBS, Fox, ABC, A&E, CW, Nick, History channel etc - oh and Free Hulu access as its seen as a PC.
I have a IPhone and I have deleted most of the apps bar about 20 of the most useful, only about 3-4 main ones are not available on the Surface - Amazon Prime Video, SkyGo are the main two.
I do like my gadgets and have tried most and the Surface has a market at this price, its a really well made piece of kit, with a fast processor and works really well.
All devices have their advantages
Ipad - Apps, status symbol of the badge
Nexus - Lets face it - Showbox and XBMC are the only reason to own an android tablet period.
Surface - Productivity, connectivity and media consumption as the screen looks great in the letterbox format, better than the near 4:3 Ipad.

I like them all but put the most hours into the Surface and under £250 the 32gb surface 2 and a 64gb Micro SD card just makes this a great deal.
If you can afford the Surface Pro, maybe its better overall, but the loss of battery life is maybe too high a cost on a portable device.
Windows RT, so cold.
I went along and got one - being a fan of Windows 8.1 [rare, I know] and thinking that it'll come in useful for Uni.

Apart from the fact the 1st model I bought was faulty [it had the "Battery not recognised" error], it's great. Considering it's only 2GB RAM and NVidia Tegra 4, it's speedy and works well. Windows Store has a wide enough range of apps for most folk now - it has 90% of the big name ones we all know and love.

The fact that it costs me only £236 is a bonus - it comes with Office 2013 worth £100, 200GB One Drive storage worth £72 and 1 year unlimited Skype calls [worth as much use as you get out of it]. Not to mentions the free music you get.
Rt utter rubbish save a little more and get a proper 1
if its not the pro its not worth it...

We had the same with the one we bought from john lewis on a deal here. Problem with the battery. Reading the reviews on online many had the same problem. After numerous phone calls and emails. We eventually was offered a refund with a 50 pound good will gesture and complimentary coffee and cake at their cafe for both me and my husband. Could not fault John lewis. However we went to Pc World then and purchased another one when PC world explained that Microsoft was aware of the problem with certain batches of tablets and had released information so you could get around it. My husband told them once they had it up and running and sorted the problem out we would purchase. Fair play they did it there and was working perfectly. We purchased using the 20 quid priority code and with the 50 quid free cash from John lewis ended up paying 179.00 of our own money. Was very happy. My husband loves the tablet. Plus came with all the Skype minutes etc. Anyone undecided on this I would say buy it you won't regret it. It's a lot of tablet for the money.
