No pen, no money. Period.
Sales haven't been awesome so I'd expect this to come down in price further in the next month or so.

It's a decent product, but people will just look at the pricetag vs. just 128gb SSD and 4GB RAM and assume it's poor value for money.

This gen didn't come with the pen. Microsoft are copying Apples business model of increasing revenue by selling everything as an extra.

Sorry I meant "not everyone will want the pen so we didn't include it".

I just can't help but feel they're taking the **** by putting 4gb of ram in and then charging 800 quid.

I have the Surface Pro 4 that came with the pen. Apart from trying out the pen a couple of times I've never used it. I would have much preferred the type cover to be included instead of having to pay another £100 on top for it.
I'm thinking of buying a cheap pen from eBay for my surface 2017. There seem to be decent looking ones for around 20 quid but does anyone have one and could comment on performance?

On paper they seem to match the previous gen of surface pens

Buy direct from Microsoft.
In the other thread about the surface pro m3 version available from amazon during christmas, people mentioned that MS customer service was pretty bad as well.

I ended up buying the m3 version from amazon and for casual use, i have no issues with it
