id rather paid a bit more for the surface 3 even for low spec one

Seems about right now. 1 year ago I got my Surface Pro, same spec, for about the same price. So the Surface Pro 2 SHOULD be this price by now.

Thanks, just ordered. Is the £30 touch keyboard from PC World compatible with this. It's called the Touch, so I'm assuming it's the first iteration of keyboard, but I'm unsure if the surfaces are backwards compatible with them.

I love the design of the SP3 but as an artist the SP2 is miles better. Such a shame they went to NTrig!!

How is the SP2 miles better? What has being an artist got to do with it? I'm keen to know, because I've used both, and having used the SP3, I'd never touch a SP2 again. For a start, the SP3 is considerably lighter. Honestly, the difference in weight is staggering! It's also much thinner, the screen is bigger and better, and the kick stand can be set to any angle. Can't understand why you'd think the SP2 is better. It just isn't.

I think he told you (and the rest of us) why in his opinion the SP2 is better.

I'm torn, sp2 or sp3......grrrrr.

Straight from the description on the website..

Do not doubt, he’s sold out, too long in this super deal because before you know you do not want to experience!

So, that clears it all up then.

If you can stretch to it SP3. SP2 was decent, but the new form factor makes a huge difference.

Aspect ratio, weight and thinness all make the tablet side of things much more usable.

Performance would be identical (with the i5), possibly slightly quicker with the SP2 due to thermal management.

I'd love one of these, but I can't justify the price unless I sold my laptop and my iPad.

I'm using a 7" Windows 8.1 tablet and it's great but, obviously a bit small. Am wondering if one of these could really replace my laptop?

Great deal at this price, assuming it is new and not a refurb/return. The ad doesn't seem to state one way or the other. My advice is:
1) The SP3 is incrementally better in virtually every way over the SP2 except that the SP2 has slightly more processing power due to the SF3's cpu being throttled back, presumably to generate less heat. Main difference is screen size and resolution. The SP2 remains a fine device and the core i5 SP3 is double the price of this deal.
2) Keyboards: Except for the SP3's new keyboard all the other pro/rt keyboards are backwards compatible. They are always coming up on ebay, the one to have IMO is the Type2 touch cover with real keys and backlighting. Make sure it has the uk keyboard layout.
3) The surface pro is marketed by Microsoft as a laptop replacement but that's not entirely true. I view mine as a tablet first and a laptop second. So, for example, if you need to use it regularly perched on your knees to type with, then this may not be for you. Otherwise, it's all positives.

Very good machine, great performance with the i5.
I ended up getting the SP2 128gb for £500 from currys last week, couldn't afford the extra £350 for the SP3.

hit the nail on the head

Description states 2 years warranty, which is a plus.

But this is the 4200-U as opposed to the 4300-U version

Were these ever sold as 4300-U? Or was a silent spec bump?

who is ibood.com

Score ibood. They're awful. Phone line doesn't work, don't answer emails, don't ship when they say. I had to do a cc charge back to get a refund on a TV I ordered

"Screw ibood" even!

I've had Surface Pro 2 since the beginning of the year, and love it. I had a good play with the Surface Pro 3 and it's an improvement in weight, stylus usage, but, and it's quite a big but for me. The extra size of,the tablet would make it impossible for me to type with my 2 thumbs as I'm able to do with my Pro 2.

Just thought it was worth a mention as it stopped me in my tracks considering replacing mine.

I will not buy any PC right now. 2015 seems to be the best year to have/build a new PC.

CPU Intel Broadwell
Windows 10
Cheaper SSD
SATA Express
Cheaper good graphic cards
USB 3.1
DDR4 RAM
Wireless 802.11ax

Sp2 was upgraded to 4300u in Dec 2013, so to have a 4200u it's either refurb or old stock

Always better stuff/tech on the way in the future, really depends on what you need and when you need it.
No point waiting until next year if you need something now.

Cold ! Ibood aren't a UK company so returns and warranty will be an issue.

IBood are a nightmare when it comes to returns or faulty goods, rather pay more from a better dealer.

802.11ax next year? More like 2018. The second phase of ac isn't out yet.

Thanks, you're right, i did a mistake on this one. (and on the SATA Express too.^^)
Anywa, a very good multimedia config PC for less than £1000 in 2015 that can run everything.

CPU = Intel i7 Broadwell
GPU = Nvidia Geforce GTX 960
SSD = 512 Go
HDD = 3 To
RAM = 16/32Gb DDR3 (or DDR4 if very powerful high-end CPU)

What are the keyboards like? on the adverts they seem like a tough ask for touch typing?

Broadwell is just slightly smaller right? Better to wait 6 months for skylake.

Touch keyboard is crap. I'm using the type 2, seen them go on ebay for £60 or so, its best keyboard ive used, never realised how useful backlit keys were.

Typing using a cover is a bit of a pain - you can't use it on your lap really, saying that im using mine now with keyboard on my chest and tablet leaning against my leg, not exactly ergonomic.

That asus trio device at £499 posted last week might be an interesting alternative, never knew such a thing existed. Similar spec to this, but also has a keyboard that when connected to the screen makes it a laptop, disconnect it and the screen becomes an android tablet, and you can then plug the keyboard in to a monitor and turn it in to a sort of desktop windows pc. Shame the tablet screen didn't have wireless video built in letting you use it as a windows tablet and leave the keyboard downstairs connecting wirelessly.

I bought a Surface Pro 2 i5 256gb about 3 weeks back. So far am fairly happy with it.

Games run well on it - been playing Resident Evil 6 and haven't had any issues.
It works fast with video and photo - Sony Vegas Pro 13 and Photoshop elements 12 run fast.
Also been using it for animation in Toon Boom Studio - program runs fine.

All this said I do have a few issues-
The type cover's touch pad is not very responsive.
If you plan to use it like a wacom cintiq it's definitely not as responsive - sometimes lines don't register and have to draw in a sketchy style for it to work.
Also as far as the pen goes you'll probably find that you'll need to switch the touch screen off whilst you draw or you'll keep knocking it with your hand.
Last thought to consider is that the screen is fairly small even at 10 inches so a lot of text will appear tiny unless you alter settings. This is especially annoying when the menu text at the top of program's is difficult to highlight

Surface pro 3 is the one to have, Surface pro 2 still didn't get much international praise and if you're thinning about ordering perhaps have a quick read up on the company you'll be buying from

I use my laptop on a table anyway so that's not an issue.

I must have missed the trio as well. Sounds interesting but doesn't seem to be what I'd be looking for. Don't need Android for a start as I have my phone for that and use my laptop on the sofa so connecting to a monitor is a no go.

Mate of mine took back his Asus Trio to John Lewis due to minor bugs and the realisation that he preferred a Win 8.1 tablet over android. Ordered a core i5 Dell XPS 12 '2 in 1' laptop from the dell outlet for £500 delivered. Arrived in mint condition. Top notch build quality and great spec (no SD card slot though) - if there is anything that might tempt me away from upgrading my SP1 to an SP3, its the Dell XPS 12. Apparently the XPS 12's keep appearing on the Dell Outlet but the more desirable Haswell cpu models get snapped up within minutes. Defo worth thinking about as an alternative to the SP2 and 3.

this is still 3 to 4 times more powerful then an ipad air

machine of marvel!
