Have been looking at these for a while and noticed Amazon have them much cheaper than elsewhere - seems to be around £799 other places

Spec:

Microsoft Surface Pro 12.3-Inch PixelSense Tablet PC (Silver) with Black Type Cover - (Intel 7th Gen Core m3-7Y30 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 615, 2017 Model, Windows 10 Pro)

Hot for new.

Once again for people who cannot get the point of the Surface Pro device, it is in its use that you find its reason for being. Sure there are LAPTOPS which offer more spec per pound, but none offer the portability and form factor. People seem to forget that this is actually a tablet first. Add a pen to it, and it is a productivity marvel of which there is very little to match it.

Worth putting "+ type cover" in title as this makes it a good deal even though it's the older cover.

a good deal

What's so good about it? TBH, I never understood the facination with Surface Pros They're nice enough but seriously overpriced for what you get (unless you absolutely must have something ultra portable). You get more bang for buck buying a 13.3" laptop which has alot more power and usability than this.

I think you answered your own question there.
This is ultra portable.
Personally I'd take a good ultrabooki over this any day.
cant see no info on the keyboard just wondering if its backlit

The type cover has been backlit for years. A simple Google search would have told you that.

Saw this posted earlier, not sure if it's still going. I have an XPS13 but 8th Gen i5... it was nearer £900 but I really like it. Slips nicely into my work bag and I almost don't notice it's in there. You can definitely get cheaper, and more powerful laptops but for portability these win IMO.

For example: At this price and form factor it's better than an ipad pro IMO. Expandable storage option, can run desktop software, good for artists, note taking with pen, comic reader etc. Wouldn't use it as my only computer though.

If it's not for you that's fine. As this is the 5th generation of this device it clearly has a place in the market. Also have a look at the deal temperature.

i did Google it didnt spend a lot of time doing it but i did do a quick search and found theres multiple covers but there all called type covers which makes searching that as a key word bring up info on all of them. Looking at the pictures it looks like its just the old standard type cover that came out with the older surfaces and is backlit but pictures are not always of the actual item for sale and are usually for illustration purposes. Go checkout the logitech K830 on currys website it has keys for Android TV but the models instore dont i contacted logitech who were no help at all apparently they couldnt view the currys website anyways long story short i ended up buying 1 online from currys cuz a mate got a discount through work and when it arrived it had the Android keys on it. Amazon sell it azwell but there pictures dont have the Android keys but id be willing to bet the actual item does.
For basic word processing surfing email, music , watching movies, nothing too demanding would the M3 suffice over the i5?

None of that would be a problem for a m3-7Y30.

The only question is does it have enough RAM for you, which is something only you can answer

More than enough. 4GB on these devices is good for a fair bit of productivity purposes. The usage case you have described will present no problems on this device.
so i was waiting for a deal on the i5 version bundle thinking its what i needed but i got curious if the M3 version would be decent enough and at this price didnt wanna miss out like i did on the i5 version. So anyways i decided to crack out my many moons old laptop which is a Samsung R519 which i upgraded to 4gb RAM and installed some of the programs im planning on using on the surface. These are Android Studio, intelliJ Idea and Photoshop CS5, PowerDVD, VLC and Tixati turns out there all usable on the laptop and perform quite well. Android Studio doesnt run great like build times are quite long and using an Emulator (AVD) is slow but it is usable an will do the job.

I found scrapping the emulator and using a real device helped but again doesnt run great. This is untested but i reckon using Genymotion instead to emulate a device would probably be alright. So if ancient tech like that is good enough for use cases like mine this M3 version of the surface should be more than good enough for most of the things im reading in the comments on these surface deals and with that in mind i just bought this version and shared this life story incase it helps anyone still deciding

I got the i5 bundle over Black Friday. I can't imagine it'll be long before it is going again. Of course, now we are heading towards the danger zone where you might be as close to the SP5 as the next deal.

It is disappointing that you need to buy the pen, because it is the best feature is the surface Pro in my opinion. Nevertheless, one you have it, you'll not regret it.

For me, it's note taking during meetings, conferences, seminars, research etc... It's also pretty good for drawing. I am however a crap artist.

Oh, get the latest pen. It is much, much better.
