I know its only an M3 processor but not a bad price

Actually it appears all the surfaces are being reduced in price on the amazon store

Trust me the m3 chugs horribly in comparison to the i5 version of this.

Depends what you need it for I guess, but yeah, I'd go for the i5 if at all possible.

The Surface Pro has been probably one of the few devices that competes head to head with Apple's range in terms of customer satisfaction. Surface (not Pro) and earlier Pro versions were not great, but the Pro 3 and Pro 4 really improved.

This one does not include the pen that comes in some of the packages.

Out of interest, is that Stylus Pen really that useful/relevant? (genuine question?), as I'm none the wiser ..... thanx.

I wonder if Microsoft is finally relenting and including the Type Cover but making the pen a separate purchase?

Unless MS have changed things the pen is in the main box for all of them.

It was the Surface 3 (not Pro) that the pen was sold separately.

Drawing, note-taking... you decide if you need it.

Product Description

Surface Pro 4 is ultrathin, fast, and versatile, the perfect balance of portability and power. With 6th generation Intel Core processor, it’s built to run professional-grade software. And the PixelSense Display has stunning colour and contrast that comes to life with Pen (not included) and touch.

Pen not included.

It's more clever than useful, unless you're a graphic artist it's not really that much good, you can annotate documents, write sticky notes and use it to draw, but as an IT consultant, I've never used my pen in anger, I've got a couple of sticky notes on my desktop, but I could have easily typed them instead. I'd suggest this is a good deal and you can buy the pen later should you need it, that's assuming the pen isn't included, because as far as I was aware, MS never produced a pro 4 without.

if I am just using this for word, chrome and email and netflix - will I notice much difference between this and the i5?
thanks

Here's a video from techtablets.com comparing the i5 & m3 models. As well as the usual benchmarks there are some "real world" usage comparisons.

Is this deal fake

Probably not really, but then why not save your money and buy an on offer, sub-£200 2in1?

Since it's from Amazon themselves clearly it isn't.

What makes you say that? It's sold direct by Amazon ands offering me Wednesday delivery if I checkout now.

Re the pen, there's options to select the pen instead of the type cover, or both, but both options are more expensive.

Yes this whole site is pointless, why are you even here?

So if I order this surface pro 4 for £599 I would get it brand new

Indeed you would, might get a brand new brown cardboard box into the bargain.

Has anyone bought it yet

Out of interest what i5 model would people buy. Thanks in advance

I'm gonna buy it for £599

I have a Core M Tablet/Hybrid and multi-task a lot (Browsers, Office, iTunes, Video playback, 6GB or so) and the CPU is not an issue. But I do have the M5 version which turbos to 2.8 and can stay fully loaded at ~2.2GHz.
This M3 is a 2.2GHz with no Turbo but if it can sustain at 2.2GHz (a cooling issue) then it should be okay but might miss the Turbo occasionally.

thanks for this - not much real world difference until he was encoding video, which is something I probably would never do on it.

the screen seems really good on these - I currently have an x220 which I like to carry round with me, but the screen is shocking. Could you recommend something where the screen is full hd? tia

I was considering this but I'm not risking on basis that the screen uses PWM and may be somewhat headache inducing.

Actually unlike i3's the core m chips all turbo, including the m3. The m3 runs at 0.9 and turbos to 2.2, vs the m5 you have which runs at 1.1 and turbos to 2.7/8 depending on variety I believe.
As you say though this should be fine for all the things the original question was about

Of course, my brain isn't what it was, not using Turbo mode so much these days.
So just a lower Turbo Boost.
