Seems a lot of money for some ports. Why not just buy a proper laptop?

I have a Surface Pro myself but if I needed this I wouldn't have bought it :P

It's available at Cex for £100 by the way for anyone that does need one. Two year warranty rather than one year.

These are so heavy and have a power brick, good if you need it to sit on a desk but not if you wanted to travel with it.

My understanding is that it acts as a dock. Therefore it's more likely to stay at your desk, connected already to all the peripherals. When you get to your desk, you plug in the Surface and away you go. It's not designed to be transported round with you. That'd defeat the point of the Surface in the first place.

Why is this cold? 165 normal price. Been on amazon for 135 recently. This is a great discount

Because I need a lightweight laptop, nothing comes close to the surface, but when I'm at home I need a gigabit network connection and a couple of extra USB ports, I did go down the usb to usb+ethernet hub, but don't like the idea of plugging in and out of the usb port all the time, I've seen too many fail over the years. The fact the dock connects via the magnetic power port, means it should last a lot longer.

Ok, so the dock is expensive, but it provides power + ethernet + usb hub + display ports, add them up and perhaps you're getting a bit closer to the cost of the dock. It's not worth £165 but certainly close to £100 it's not quite as obscene as Apple devices.

Considering a genuine power supply costs £65, £114 for this is a really good price. It is deliberately made heavy with weights screwed in so that it sits firmly on a desk, these can be removed relatively easily, though likely will invalidate the warranty. The extra ports enable me to use my two desktop screens at home and ethernet enables me to quickly exchange my NAS data.

Basically, it allows a mobile device to ALSO act as an office desktop. Flexibility is really not a hard concept to grasp, though clearly it manages to escape some people on here...

This deal should have been very hot but is expired now anyway.
