might be a reasonable deal but with all the issues that have plagued the surfaces and the lack of action by MS I wouldnt touch another surface again ever myself
I don't get it, not that I'm comparing but a macbook air 2017 with ssd 128gb is £779 and that doesn't include the trade in from currys. Deffo not the same functionality as the surface but the residual value of the surface is quite poor in comparison. This is my opinion and doesn't take anything away from the deal.

I've owned surfaces since the surface 3, and have a 3, 5, and 6. All 3 run perfectly. Moreover, MS has been incredible with any issues. I've encountered.

You shouldn't compare, because that MacBook you are talking about is very poor in comparison.

I do know that there are people with faults. Look at literally every manufacturer support page and you'll find the same. It doesn't change the fact that in my home there are three active surface pro devices, all running along without issue, all working great.

Apple fanboys plague Microsoft threads like flys, they must subscribe to every surface post to say how awful the surface is. Sad really. Many pro reviewers say Microsoft lead the way in laptop design, and for good reason.

Excellent stuff.. I've waited too long for October to bite now though.. grr
im not an apple fanboy (dont like apple at all or their eco system) nor do I have hate for any other device.. I have keyboard issues though on my SP3 and see the same issues being talked about with the SP4 and battery issues with the SP6.. i really dont believe these threads are full of people complaining for the sake of it or lying

Apologies I take it back.. but there a lot known apple users on these threads hating on ms products to make themselves feel better about their products which competitively are lacking major features compared to the surface.

You have the Surface 3? To be honest that's ancient history, were now looking at 6 with new technology, sitting on the dawn of SP7.

You wouldn't slam windows 10 because you didn't like vista would you? Or slam the latest designed ford focus because a few people thought a different ford focus model from years ago didn't have great handling. Btw the sp6 keyboard is excellent and reviews frequently back that up. Plus it's guaranteed.

Point taken but I stand by my opinion. I'd recommend the 'similar priced' macbook.
I also know an IT chap who purchased surface pros for employees and he says they are plagued with issues and that he would never go near one.
But as I said, this is more for information rather than the deal.

A £779 MacBook would be very weak sauce regarding the demographic shopping to enjoy SP6 features.

Btw.. Everyone knows an "IT chap" who thinks something or other. Most people will use common sense and see that as 'anecdotal evidence' (and obviously unprofessional, as some amazing businesses use the surface successfully as it's a highly effective and machine with design features that perfectly lend themselves to many types of business).

Ahh.... OK, point taken. This chap is an IT guru working for a school. He is the Head of the IT department lol, but he's still a chap. I would agree that the surface pro is much more user friendly and perhaps better suited for business use. But that wasn't where I was going with my opinion.

oooh i can be "that guy". 2018 Surface Pro, i7, 128GB . ZERO issues. No screen flicker, doesn't get hot. No problems whatsoever. Maybe I've been lucky.

I'm desperate for a thin light laptop or tablet keyboard type thing for uni and am scrolling on here can send 1k ish... seems good specs and good build and perfect for 800 odd but 2 people now mentioned October what's happening the? New versions?

go for it man, i mean new one is likely to cost more right, I'm using a 16 month old one and it still works flawlessly and does everything I need. It has a full version of office 2016 on it, I can run pretty much anything I can run on my desktop on it, install steam and play most of my games etc. Of course older models might reduce further in price when new ones come out, but I paid £850 for mine 16 months ago so they haven't budged a massive amount in that time. Ignore the haters, there are tons of people with macbook pro issues too (I have a macbook too, so I'm not anti-apple). There is no such thing as 100% flawless hardware, if it doesn't work for you, just send it back. And when it's in tablet mode, it's undoubtedly the best / fastest / most versatilie tablet you can get.

£779 with Type Cover seems to be going rate for offer deals over the past 12 months. £879 with cover for 256GB and John Lewis is great value imo (but if you aren't into that design like I am it's a little disappointing). Heads up though - Surface event on Oct 2nd where we are expected to see the Pro 7 announced, so maybe these will drop further in price

Also seems Currys/PCW has these with other type cover colours for 899.

Is the 100 extra at john Lewis just for the design and the storage upgrade?

I've looked around and 750-800 is about the average price now lots of similar over last few months... will probably been 700 or so soon and hold its price there... might wait until new one announced see what happens even if I save 50 quid will kick myself not waiting a week haha

Yeah version 7 is 'supposed' to be released early October. With the new gen on processors, which you won't need for uni work though so may not be worth the price, but, the price of the SP 6 may reduce 'if' the new model is actually released early Oct.

Btw SP6 will be great for uni stuff if you're into the lightweight form factor. If you want to put music and store your movies on, check out deals for the 256gb as above for £100 more as due to OS and system utilisations the 128 will only have 100gb usable storage for your software packages and media.. that said usb is a solution for media if you're on a budget and want to faff with that
Im still with my first gen surface book, still dont think its time to upgrade..as 2nd gen is expensive,3rd on its way.. and surface tablets still a tablet with cover keyboard

i dont have a mac, never had a mac in my life so I have no idea what you are on about

the point im trying to raise is that there are a lot of issues with ms surface products, if you have one without issues thats great, but if i was going to get another id get a long warranty as 12m down the line when your warranty with MS expires they dont usually have the answers to issues people are experiencing and the general vibe is 'you may as well scrap it and buy another, or pay us loads of money for a discounted refurb model we will sell you'

Theres a common factor with your surface devices. They are both MS surface.... and yours. Others seemed to be fine with it, so maybe theres a problem on how you use it. Or you are just someone who is unlucky enough to get the bad ones.

devices? both? I only have one. wow you guys really dont want to hear about potential issues with these.. 'must be an apple fan boy.. must be me'.. how dare someone suggest SOME of these devices develop faults that cant be fixed outside of warranty.. 'MY device is fine so everyone else on the internet must be wrong or lying' lol
Just found a brand new surface pro 5 at local sell trade store its i7 1tb ssd and upgraded graphics compared to i5 models... BUT it's still 5th gen 2017 release... it is £1049 seems incredible as most other i7 1tb ssd even 2017 model near 1.7k minimum... is it worth waiting for newer models and see what happens or just grab it this cheap? I7 1tb ssd seems great but is 5th gen getting old now? I'm really stuck haha any advice would be awesome.
