“On Amazon for £700 and that's without the keyboard - amazon.co.uk/Mic…8-3

Thats not correct, £700 is for the i5.
The i3 is £669 on Amazon.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch an i3 and would spend the extra £70 and get the i5.

This is the best laptop/tablet PC in the world. Screen size is perfect at 12+ inches. The i3 CPU will do...would have wanted minimum i7 but this will do for now. This is perfect for jumping through airports and trains.

If this is the perfect device for you, I hope you realise now why others prefer larger screens. We had similar type of devices from work. They've paid a lot for them. Within a year, they had to change them. Despite portability, people were complaining. We ended up with much cheaper HP 15 inch. I don't like the HP, but for what to do at work, and for productivity, they suit most of us better.
Personally, I associate this with a premium tablet rather than a laptop. And while it is compact for travelling, I prefer a 10 inch tablet for travelling.
So, there are laptops to carry with you, and laptops to use for work or other purposes. That's why you can't compare a 15 inch laptop, with an ultrabook or with something like this or like the Lenovo Duet. On top of this, due to form factor (I pay extra for the form factor), this is almost double the price, compared with a laptop with the same specs. And I have no doubts the 15 inch 'normal' laptops sell in much bigger numbers than this, that's why the manufacturers still do 15 inch laptops. (edited)

i3 and 8gig RAM... I'd pass. I've got an i7, 16gb with type cover and it's excellent, I'll probably not go back to a traditional laptop format for personal use.

What are these like for battery life? I love Microsoft Surface kit and have had 4 of them from the RT and always find the battery life wanting. I don't even use heavily just web browsing and watching the odd film. I am not running business software

As long you don't play energy intensive games like football manager, battery will last two days or it does on the pro 8

I’m waiting for a Surface Pro 9 deal. Anyone got any ideas how long after release the deals start popping up? Thanks
    Akram's avatar
You will be waiting a while! The surface pro 8 is still priced quite high even though the 9 is out... I think you are right to skip the 7 and wait for a similar deal to come out for the 8. From what I've read not much difference between the 8 and 9

8gb ram nowhere near enough these days given how much windows uses, 128gb ssd won't have much left ontop of the operating system, then an i3 on a pro ?
    FieldMarshal's avatar
8GB is adequate for most users unless you use your PC for multimedia, graphic intensive/gaming or resource hungry applications. 16GB is a lot of RAM for emailing, word processing, spreadaheets, light media consumption and general personal use. Most of your RAM will be wasted.

What is the genuine battery life on a new surface 7 pro, based on office work etc. also, does plugging it in to a charger several times a day affect battery life? I plan to connect to my 2 screens, keyboard mouse, etc.
