About this deal

Microsoft Surface Pro 9 combines laptop-level performance with the flexibility of a tablet for people who want both power and versatility to move throughout their day – all in one device. Brings together Pro and Pro X into one product. With the 12th gen Intel Core i5 running the show, there isn't a task that can stop you. You can create documents, do research online, edit photos or do it all at once.

The Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics gives the Surface extra power for editing photos and videos or playing games. Multitask your heart out – there are 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM for smooth performance.

The Surface won't mind. The 3K PixelSense touchscreen is a joy to look at and work on. It brings everything to life – from photos of your family to TV shows. Even spreadsheets will look good. With all that power inside, it still manages to weigh less than 1 kg. And the kickstand on the back lets you set up shop anywhere – at the office or a beach bar.

They are also doing a deal with the keyboard included for £879 which is perhaps useful to know. Have one of these at work and it's ace. Being able to remove the keyboard for tablet mode and the integrated kickstand are really useful. Unfortunately they're just too expensive for me to buy for home use given the age of the processor, cost for a 16gb RAM model and the additional cost of the keyboard.

The processor holds up. It's still quite relevant in terms of single thread performance. (only 5.4% slower than my desktop 11700k) Only lacking a bit these days on multi.(45% slower than my desktop 11700k) Unless you're compiling chrome or something, it should be more than sufficient for its target customer.

The business version of the 10 was released a couple of months ago.

The Surface pro 8 onwards have all got well documented overheating issues. The fan comes on regularly and the unit runs hot most of the time (especially when using Teams).

We have these at work and I've had 3 models; the current one is the 16Gb version of this.

The form factor, keyboard, screen etc are wonderful however.

I was surprised to find that the i5 from 8 onwards were not fanless.

Designed obsolescence! Especially in a device that is not upgradeable.

It's not viable to run on the hardware. I did look which Cloud platforms MS Simulator is on and they are AirGPU (Beta) and XBox Cloud (Beta). So the performance there depends on your Internet connection and the latency in the connection for the Cloud service.
