I got the X for £279 last black Friday. I expected around £259 with a chart game at least this year.

How they can charge this much when the true next gen is out in 10/11 months I don't know. I went from the S to the X. Was slightly noticeable when using a 4K TV but not worth the hype imo. Especially this close to next gen.

I was in 2 minds about posting it but then thought, that it is (from what I can find), the cheapest by a tenner or so. So I went for the IDGAF approach. Grit my teeth, closed my eyes and hit submit

It’s worth posting as it may help someone and is the cheapest price!

in terms of overall deal values this Black Friday has truly sucked in the uk! I was hoping for much better drops. But I reckon the retailers are desperate to fatten margins due to brexit uncertainty.

What did you think of the game performance between the S and X....? I noticed with Sea of thieves it seems a lot smother on an X?

You might want to pop into specsavers if you can't see a big difference between 860p and up to native 4K.

Ahh, I haven’t compared much on the X US wise. Just prices for Apple bits, a tv I wanted and a few other things.
Worth noting that TopCashback is has 4.4% and Quidco has 4.8% cash back on Coolshop and whilst you should not use this as the deciding factor there could be potentially a further maximum saving of £12.72 or £13.87 respectively!

Upto* That depends on the game and the development. Some look great. Others look okay. My eyes are just fine. A slight improvement does not justify the price of a new console when the true Next Gen is months away. I stand by my opinion.

Of course it will be better. Just for me I didn't get that 'this was worth a new console upgrade' feeling when I compared the two. Plenty of YouTube Xbox One Vs Xbox One X videos.

There's many games that benefit from it. Then the ones that don't have dynamic resolution, which run up to 4K but can drop to around 1600p in demanding areas. Even when dropped it's still miles above the S. Not to mention the X has many games that can use the 60FPS option unlike the S at 30FPS.

So let's just drop the "slight improvement" nonsense, yeah?

The new console may cost twice this price. Some people wait a year or 2 before jumping into a new console. This price for an X is fantastic value regardless of a new console dropping LATE NEXT YEAR.

It's not miles above the S. Most people don't see a huge difference and certainly not a 'next gen' difference.

It's not nonsense it's an opinion which many will agree and many won't. We all have one boss.

As for good value. It's the SAME price as it was a year ago. So no. Not good value. Calm down Voorhees. I did prefer Michael anyway.

Well that's just it. We won't know. But I'm saying the difference is not worth it now. When the next gen consoles will be out in 10 months. Just my opinion that's it's not with the upgrade now.
Massive difference between the s and x in my opinion, i had the s on a 4k and upgraded to an x on the same tv, it was a massive difference to me on all the games i played.

Yes, that’s the best deal but only if you are prepared to do a little bit of leg work, don’t forget some people cannot be bothered and want to pay the best price upfront and thus this is a decent “cash” deal.

Yes it is. It's not an opinion at all because it's factually wrong. Many comparison videos shows a massive difference. The S is under performing and has been for ages, that's another fact. If you're happy with 30FPS with drops to 22FPS whilst looking at blurry backgrounds then an S should do you just fine.

I mean, if you're sitting 10ft+ away from a 43" BUSH tv then you probably wouldn't notice that much of a difference.

You say that the X isn't a big upgrade then neither will the new console be. Most 4K tvs are 50/60hz so there will be no frame rate improvement for X users. I don't know anyone with a 8K tv so I'm not even going to go there.

Previous prices have nothing to do with value. £300 is a bargain for the tech you get.

Well good for you, I much prefer bulbasaur myself.

I have an opinion that I don't see a huge difference yet it's not an opinion? Okay then.

I am not disagreeing with you, I am stating my views on the console. I see my X as an improvement over the S. It is better, clearly. Yes I know it is better on paper and in reviews etc. I never said it wasn't. I never said it wasn't a big upgrade. To some it may well be.

I said for ME I couldn't see it being worth the upgrade a year ago. But now especially now. Please read up the definition of an opinion. We all have them.

Perhaps I was expecting too much. Perhaps I was expecting a Next Gen console. Perhaps the developers are not pushing the limits of the X and the older consoles are holding them back. Either way I'm not that blown away playing on either of my TVs. Which is why I didn't bother with the PS4 Pro and that console has reasons to upgrade with their exclusives.

Touchè on the last bit. I actually prefer Bulbasaur too. Just didn't have an image of him to hand at the time.

Oh and I sit 3 ft away from a 40" HDR 4K Panasonic. Was a cheap TV but very good for the money. I then also when she isn't watching come dine with me sit 5ft away from a 65" Q9FN Screen. Not that there is anything wrong with Bush users.
Edited by: "jayuk666" 30th Nov 2019
If someone is not gonna get a next gen console on launch next year and plan to have the X for 2 or more years in the meantime then this represents great value.

I wouldn't expect the price to get much lower than this as it's an advanced machine and the margin can only go so low due to the expensive internal components.

I mean that it's factually wrong to say that it isn't a big improvement. If you don't see the difference you was expecting then maybe you did have your expectations too high. It was always known as a mid gen upgrade. So if you was expecting the difference from xbox to xbox 360 then that's on you. The games were never made with the X as priority. Didn't you know the only thing that was going to change were resolution and FPS? Both of which were considerably improved.

So yes, the X is a big improvement on what it is supposed to improve. The ps4 to pro difference is much less noticeable as both consoles are sandwhiched between the xbox1 and 1x.

Thats what I thought. I know the S is decent but when you’re playing games in native 4K on the X, got to be a big difference? Plus its a UHD Blu-ray player, another advantage.

The S has the same disc drive as the X, both play 4k blurays. The main difference is the huge GPU power increase.
Didn’t know that!! Ive been looking for a UHD blu ray player and have been debating wether or not to get a stand alone one or get a One X, now the S is looking appealing. Im not a big gamer so Ill only use it sporadically.

If the S upscales i’m guessing thats where it loses out as the X is 4K from the ground up? Apparently lacks sound as well. So Im back to my predicament, buy a decent £200 4K blu-ray player or shell out a little more and get the One X so I can game too.

Just done the same, cost about £20 more than what you got, but still good. 4x £43 2x £42 and then with 5% TCB eneba.com, 3% TCB CdKeys and then 4% TCB Microsoft it should work out at about £240. eneba.com wouldn’t accept the same bank card after 4 purchases for whatever reason so just got the CDKeys gift card.
