Do forgive me, I cannot recall the price before the drop here, I think it was £80 or possibly even more than that, for all 6 films seems a very decent price for the digital editions on Apples store plus it has itunes extras, I am not sure if it is the same documentaries from the DVDs but still, added extras are added extras.

These were all 4.99 each during the holiday season. Cold
If you're patient this 30 or so disk physical bluray version drops to £39.99 every now and then.

From what I can see this was added to iTunes on 21/12/19 and has been this price since. May have been relisted however but this likely RRP.

From what I can see that was for the Hobbit theatrical versions, this is for the extended editions
🥶
There’s a rumoured 4K disc set for the whole collection in 2020. Hopefully this gets upgraded too.
This price might catch the passing person, but I'm a massive fan and have all the films in all the formats

Don’t get your hopes up. The lord of the rings trilogy wasn’t filmed in native 4K. Peter Jackson has always said he’s no interest in going back to remaster all of the footage to improve the quality to 4K.

They were shot on film, so they don’t have a native resolution. Besides, resolution gains from 4K are only part of the equation, WCG and HDR will also form part of any 4K transfer.

A 4K version will come, it’s just a matter of when.

Agreed. It’s an easy way to sell the same film yet another time.

DVD
Bluray
Extended
4K

Might as well sell the same thing multiple times if you can.

It’s the special effects. They were only rendered in 2k so would have to be completely reworked unless they don’t bother adjusting them it won’t be a 4K film

That applies to a lot of modern films too, which receive 4K releases regardless. Besides, the film is not entirely special effects, it has a live action too.

Again, though, this is not just about resolution. HDR and WCG are arguably more important aspects of 4K HDR releases. If somebody asked me to choose one out of either 4K resolution or HDR, not both, I’d go with HDR every time.

100% a price drop, I have had it on my itunes wish list for ages, but annoyingly itunes don’t show what price was before (I had the only fools and horses collection on there, was 45 quid for ages then dropped to 24.99 but no fan fare or alerts etc - they just change it)

Im only going off cheap charts tracker, this has been this price for about 6-7 weeks and no other price history prior to this. As its been this price for so long it is likely RRP and thats reason why I said it above. Its probably a relisting and likely a higher price prior to the relist. This is common across all digital platforms

I use CheapCharts and they email me whenever anything on my Wishlist drops in price - they also give the price drops over the past couple of years. They are very reliable. I have 3 iTunes Accounts - UK, US and CAN. I've my eye on some Boxsets & Movie Bundles which I am waiting to drop in price.

On the Canada iTunes Store, this works out at about £35. But it has been cheaper on there!
