Although these say they work with Vista, I bought the next model up and it would not work with Vista without serious tinkering. Not worth the hassle with Vista. Just get a microsoft one. I opted for the VX1000 to replace this for the person I bought it for. I know its more expensive but it works straight out of the box. I however have the VX3000 and its great, so can highly recommend it.

Or an alternative would be to buy £50 of Argos gift vouchers, therefore getting a £5 gift voucher back. So you then have £55 worth of gift vouchers, use a tenner of them on this webcam, then give the other £45 out as Christmas prezzies! This webcam has then only cost a fiver ;-)

BTW, voted hot and ordered one of these. Reserved for pick up tomoz. Cheers! Been after a decent webcam for a while now - hope this is a good one.

thanks for this - a brill little xmas pressy for hubs!!!

You're welcome and thahnks for al the feedback

Just got one of these from Argos and set it up. Not very impressed so far. It installed fine on vista home premium 32 without problems but the only software with it is video capture / drivers.

The marketing says it has face tracking so i assumed it would have a motor in it and it would follow my face but it doesn't. The manual says nothing about face tracking.

The picture is really dark and grainy with lots of lag.

I bought it as an upgrade for a 640x480 cam I got from home base (2 for £9) but in my opinion it is not as good as the one from homebase.

Would someone kindly explain what face tracking is - am I missing something?

I can't see any difference between this cam (which was meant to be £25) and the one for £9.99 here...anyone?

Edit: Just noticed the £25 one has a mic and a manual zoom but still not impressed for £10 - I'd be pig sick if I'd paid £25. There goes my £5 voucher, it's going back tomorrow.

As I understand it Face tracking means that the webcam will auto zoom to keep your face filling the frame but does not change viewing axis automatically.

thanks

I am pretty sure the zoom feature on this is manually operated by turning a ring around the lens so if it does keep your face in the frame I think it will be by digital zoom (the software) but it didn't seem to do that when I was testing it.

Anyone else got one of these? Am I missing something?

just share you kid's eyetoy,,it's cheaper,,the only thing, it does not recognise yahoo only msn..

Was it ever worth £24.99?

Does anyone know if this works with OS X? It does say it works in the specs, but there's a difference between "you can run up some ****** app and record video from the webcam" and "supports iChat".

Unless a webcam can be used in iChat, it can't be claimed to be supported in OS X.

I thought that OS X ichat supported USB webcams from 10.4.9 onwards?

I have used this with earlier OS versions to get around the unsupported USB problem in iChat
