Just went to buy minecraft for the ps4 and it came up as free (also on the PSVITA too) instead of the £3.99 they usually charge if you allready own it on the PS3.

I long for the day when if you buy a game once then you can play it on all platforms.

Yeah that will keep the games industry financially ticking

This is a misleading post and I suspect you are looking and linking to the demo/trial version.

The PS4 version is only upgradable from the PS3 version for a small fee (I think it's £3.49 or something similar). It is not Cross Buy and so is not free (and never has been).

Only the PS3 and the Vita version (released today) have Cross Buy. If you bought the PS3 version you can today get the PS Vita version for free.

If you haven't yet bought Minecraft as a digital copy, you should always buy the PS3 version, which you can then crossbuy and upgrade to PS4. All three version will then set you back about £17 or a bit less.

I will admit it is not very clear at all. The PS4 trial version does not state it is a demo or trial. You will see there is also and unlock pack available on the store for the PS4, this is what you have to pay for and this is what gets you the full game.

That day has been with us for ages now, just not available on all titles. Titles such as Flow and Flower have cross buy which covers all three playstation consoles. Hotline Miami is another example and there are many others.

Generally these versions are the exact same thing across all consoles and so can be done easily. Minecraft PS4 is a bigger game than on PS3 or Vita and so a bit more work has gone in to porting it over. As it's not classed as exactly the same game we have to pay a small upgrade fee. But £17 for all three versions is a pretty good deal these days.

There's no "unlock pack" just texture packs. Theres no restrictions or limits. From playing it appears to be the full game

Couldn't buy it on its own. Guessing you have to have ps3 / vita version first or in the same basket?

you have to have owned the PS3 version

I too thought it was free but its actually a time trial

Here's how to do it:

First: Go to the Store on your PS4 or laptop or PC or whatever you like.

Second: Go to search type in Minecraft.

Third (on laptop): you'll see about 6 or 7 minecraft things pop up. Next to Minecraft text after you searched it, it will say Show All. Somewhere there you'll find the Unlock version for €3,99 in Europe or on Europe accounts. £3 In UK

Third (on PS4): now this is quite similar but a bit harder. You'll open the Store ase you normally would. Then go to All Games, Filter them from A-Z, search for the M and you wil see minecraft twice! one is the demo the other one is a Unlock.

copied from psn forums. There is a unlock charge of £3.69 if you already own Ps3 version. Texture packs are free if already purchased on ps3...

I feel like I need to get involved with this Minecraft lark. I keep hearing you guys harping on about it. I might get it for the PS3 then put it on my VITA. :-)

This is a timed trial not free at all. Freezing.

Appears to be, but isn't. It's the trial version. You can choose not to believe me if you like.

I know from first hand experience that it's only the demo, I thought I had pulled a fast one on sony until I booted the game lol.

The best way is to get a cheap disc copy on PS3 (disc copy is still valid for free vita upgrade)

I got the PS3 and PSVita version for free thanks to this

How did I get trophies on the Vita version then? (_;)

Had you already bought the PS4 version beforehand ?

I'm assuming he must have bought the PS3 version to upgrade to the PS4 version. There is no crossbuy between ps4 and the other versions, so just buying the pS4 version won't get you the other two games. The only way you could have got the PS3 version and ps vita showing up as free is if you had already bought the PS3 version.

No I didn't have the PS3, or PS4 edition. I simply downloaded the PS3 demo, PS Vita demo, then the PS3 version showed as free, along with the Vita version, so I got both version for nothing.

nope

Mine is definitely the full PS4 game, must have been a glitch due to the vita release

I got the PS3 version on disc but I can't even get the PS4 version at the reduced price

No actually he probably did. An error on PSN yesterday caused both the PS3 and Vita versions of Minecraft to be temporarily free when you checkout on the website with both trial versions in your basket. By doing this you could then have paid the £3.69 upgrade fee for the PS4 version, leaving you with Minecraft on all 3 on of Sony's current platforms for £3.69 :P Unfortunately this was fixed at 3:00AM last night

Damn! I stand corrected then. Good for anyone that managed to snag this. Sorry for voting cold then (to be fair this does pop up quite often from people mistaking the trial as the full version for free).

I think I just did this. Bought Ps3 crossbuy last night, went into PSStore today and added PS4 version to the basket for £0.00.
I dont have a PS4 yet so can't confirm its the demo....might have to grab one and see. It didnt say trial on it.

I got the PS3 and Vita version free. Saw this and it said the PS4 was free too but when I've played it, it was just a trial and theres no option to buy it even when the game prompts you. I'm stuck with a demo now. Now can I fix this?

Original Poster

It was only free for a few hours till the glitch was fixed, you''ll need to delete the demo
