I did a bit of research a few months ago before buying the Nexbox A95X for my niece but this one was a contender. From what I remember, the 8GB box had problems with poor Wi-Fi, but the newer 16GB version was much better. Either that or I assume newer batches had a better Wi-Fi chip?* (Not unknown for Android boxes to tweak internals on the quiet).

*Did lots of digging on Freaktab reading about the Firmware/Wi-Fi - see Post #4.

Paying a premium for UK/Prime Delivery but if you're in a rush, it's worth it!

Edit: The reviews I've seen of this box imply it comes with Android 6.0.1 cnx-software.com/201…re/

About Wi-Fi (at 10:33) - seems to be better - https://youtu.be/ZXx10hempU0?t=631

...though on closer inspection, that Youtube reviewer states it's the 16GB box, yet mentions 8GB in his review. I do remember reading the Wi-Fi was poor on this box originally so wonder if newer batches had a better Wi-Fi chip?

Even though the diagram implies it's 8GB, in the Q&As halfway down it says:

Question: The description in the title and specs say 2gb/16gb but the specs in the photograph say 2gb/8gb which one is correct?

Answer: It is 16GB.

Take notice, though that the Ethernet port on this box is only 10 / 100 Mbps and not Gigabit like yours. You may find various different custom roms for this box, here: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/s905x/others-aml-s905x/firmware-roms-tools-bxAnd here is a link with various suggestions / fixes / solutions, etc: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/s905x/582341-mini-m8s-ii-4k-smart-tv-box-amlogic-s905x-2-8gb-wifi-10-100-lan-btThere is also a Russian forum (easier to read by using Google Chrome's "Translate page" feature) with literally everything related to this box (bugs, fixes, stock firmwares, custom roms, advices, etc):http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=762717&st=220

(Huge thread but the Google Translate link is translate.google.co.uk/tra…xt= )

Totally confused about the Wi-Fi now, as the Youtube review implied it was good!

About Wi-Fi, seems it could be Firmware issues? There is discussion of the Wi-Fi chip being changed in later batches, seems there's been quite a few firmware updates - a newer one (0923) even offered Root.

atvbca suggests that the Wi-Fi may improve if you turn off Bluetooth freaktab.com/for…-bt?p=588951#post588951

However, rahzel says it's a Firmware problem freaktab.com/for…261

Flashed to 0805 rev104 with the USB Burning Tool and all is well now.....if you're using WiFi on this box and updated to the latest 0903 rv104 software via OTA, you might want to consider reverting back to 0805 rv103. For me anyway, 0903 rv104 kills my WiFi performance so that it's even worse than I was experiencing before. I have 20Mbit down and I can only achieve ~6Mbit. With 0805 rv103 I get the full 20Mbit doing a speed test. Here's atvbca's post for the firmware: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/s905x/others-aml-s905x/firmware-roms-tools-bx/589497-mod-for-tanix-tx5-pro-minim8sii-and-nexbox-a95x-cooleme-mb1-x9-frankenstein-firmware-wip/page29Also, the system update app suggested that I update to rv104 so I just disabled the app in the settings.... been running 0805 for over a month now on my other boxes and they have been solid for my uses anyway. Better than having broken wifi....very odd that some boxes can't receive 0805 rv103 via OTA. Also weird how the latest firmware kills WiFi performance...Updates are surprisingly pretty frequent, but they're not very reliable to say the least.

MiniM8S II has TWO different wifi chip AP6212 and AP6212A (last boxes)

rahzel freaktab.com/for…411 says later on in the thread:

First, when I launch a video in Kodi, the brightness is increased, leading me to believe that the RGB Range switches from RGB Full (0-255) to RGB Limited (16-235). The older modded TX5 firmware had the same issue which I believe was fixed. Once this happens, the RGB range changes for the box until you reboot it.The second issue I have is whenever I close Kodi back to the home screen, I get an Unfortunately Kodi has stopped working message every time.edit: Going back to 0805 has caused my wifi performance to drop big time. Now I'm stuck between poor wifi performance (0805) or broken Kodi (0923). The manufacturer for this box fixes things but breaks others with their software updates. I appreciate the timely updates, but jeez.

Another recommendation freaktab.com/for…994 from Andrei80 says:

The seller doesn't make it easy to understand - they've not done a great job with this Amazon listing.

The reviews I've seen of this box imply it comes with Android 6.0.1, yes cnx-software.com/201…re/

On another picture, it implies this has a rebrand "TVCordCutterz" (who have their own website - not sure I can link to it here, so I won't.) Not sure if this is what you will receive.

You really need a wireless keyboard and mouse, or touchpad/keypad to get the best out of these boxes (I prefer the illuminated ones).

Cheapest wireless illuminated touchpad/keypad I can see is this at £9.80 (with Prime) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06WWQHSMM

If you don't like that version, this is £9.99 (Prime) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonnics-Wireless-Rechargable-Multifunction-Raspberry/dp/B0152A76H2

£8.90 Used - Like New on Amazon Warehouse https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0152A76H2/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

Even more bargain basement here at £5.52 Used - Like New, for the illuminated option (not sure I like the look of this one! Reviews are a bit ropey) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B01GZK75BK/ref=dp_olp_used

Non-backlit if £4.58 Used - Good amazon.co.uk/gp/…e=0

I think if you take the Android box market as a whole, the vast majority of boxes are "rebrands" - a few factories churning out similarly specced boxes with a finite combination of components but with slight design differences (cases, packaging etc) which are then sold by a multitude of sellers.

Maybe I'm less demanding than others, but we've had a few Android boxes over the years and as long as you configure them correctly (Kodi, streaming apps etc) I haven't noticed any significant difference in performance between the various models. The main noticeable difference has been in the Android version used.

Yeah, I remember reading a few of the recent S912 boxes were all clones of one another.

My brother has the Beelink Mini MXIII II which has decent dual-band Wi-Fi from all the reviews I'd read at the time - he's been moaning saying it drops out a lot and it also asks him to input the WEP key regularly which must be a PITA.

I could blame his router but that sounds more like a hardware bug. My Mini MXIII has been fine, no issues.
I don't think it's just the recent S912's, I suspect it's been the case for a few years. Of course there are some manufacturers who innovate, but that comes at a price which I suspect the majority of the market wont pay - especially when there are a multitude of cheaper alternatives that appear to do the same job.

You mention Beelink - they're not cheap yet the thirty odd quid box I bought a few weeks ago has dual band WiFi and works perfectly on both 2.4 & 5GHz. In fact, overall its as good as I would expect in that price range - interestingly its now £46, jumped up by a tenner!

Someone had a MiniMXIII on ebay last night, honestly thought it would go for a few quid. It's at £30 at the moment. Not bad as I paid £25 for mine nearly a year ago so maybe some have decent resale value.

this box is really good if you install the xannytech ROM (from freaktab or XDA) on it, and replace it with the wetek classic launcher from the aptoide store.

although to install the latest version of the rom you need a male to male usb and amlogic burning tool install on a PC. but it is worth it!

these are cheaper on gearbest, and take about a week to get here.
