please explain ?

Guaranteed there will be none at any B&Q near me.

Did they only have them in the one colour?

Just black and Silver there was around 50 left in the Morton Park one and 15-20 at the North Road B&Q.
I only bought one as i like to leave for other people.
Also managed to pick up a roll of Stanley Spanners in Chrome vanadium for £5 but that was a 1 of special reduction orange sticker jobby

Hot from me I will be calling in to Morton Park on my way to work today.
I have one already and I have to agree with pghstochaj that its not the greatest torch, it doesn't really have a great beam on it, but for £3 its still a good buy. Its handy to take on holiday or have to hand for the many power cuts I have.

These are pretty pathetic compared to the Cree LED torches you can pick up cheaply these days. I have 3 maglites lying redundant now (2 AA models and a AAA) as the light they produce doesn't come close to that of my cheap single AA LED torches from dealextreme.

Granted, £3 is a good price for a maglite but for a few pounds more you can have something that uses less batteries and puts out more than 3 times the light.

I was round at a friend's house recently, he pulled out his 4C cell maglite and even it didn't throw as far or shine as bright as my little single AA Cree torch.

Only reason I'd buy an incandescent torch now would be to use for light trails in night photography. And for that reason, I'm voting this a hot deal.

Rubbish quote more like! Some people just like to behave idiotically on these boards.

You can get better LED lights nowadays, but the MiniMags are still great for most people. And for this price, a bargain!

This is a good SAVING so its hot from me.

Granted the product might not be equal to other small LED torches etc on the market.

Yes, cheap LED torches with much better battery life have done for this type of torch.

you can convert these to LED quite cheaply. Then they are really excellent torches.

How would you go about converting to LED?
I have a couple of these lying around and never thought of converting them.

just a question of buying a new LED unit which replaces the bulb and new reflector. You can get kits from various places including fleabay. A quick seach looks like it will cost £10-15, but if you already have the torch, then you end up with an excellent torch.

have a google for LED maglite upgrade

Good price but now effectively redundant due to cheap LED torches.

I have numerous torches and there is no way whatsoever that this stands up against modern competition in terms of light (which is the purpose of a torch is it not). I have one and it is awful compared to moderm LED torches. It was fine when I bought it 7-8 years ago, but things have moved on. I also have a 4D maglite and again, it is awful.

Sadly my blunt quote is perfectly true.

Have converted my mag to a 3LED torch, much whiter brighter light and batteries last longer (and no having to buy the lamps either)
Still fairly bullet proof too so a win win.

This is one main use of a maglite, they are reasonable bodies (though not great) and can therefore be used to make a decent overall torch (i.e. with a reasonable light output). The other thing I can think of is that if you need a low and yellow light instead of white and bright LED. The sad thing is that you can get keyring lights far brighter than a maglite.

There's a lot of difference in someone giving a response that actually tells someone something, than a response that doesn't. Your first response was a waste, it didn't tell anyone anything, it wasn't blunt because it didn't explain a thing!

Your second response was much better:thumbsup:

Oh, and all this talk of LEDs are still not keeping on track. With most deals there are bigger and better, but I have yet to see a post where I can go in and get a cree LED for £3, then I would certainly want to hear about it, and would certainly buy one, or three!! Especially if it was on the high street like this deal!!!!!!!

But fact is, crees are not at that stage yet, and, yes you may well get one delivered for $9.99 from DX, but it still it is not £3!!!!!

And one thing that hasn't change is the light. If it was good enough 7-8 years ago. it will still be good enough now. Doesn't mean you can't get better. And one thing maglite do very well is quality, and they still are quality.

Is that not why most people are saying "good price, rubbish light"?

You can get better performing torches for £3, but they won't be of a decent quality, a minimum of £10 would be needed for that. I have a cheap energizer LED torch that cost me £2 and it is brighter than my 2 AA maglite.

I have learnt many times; buy cheap, buy twice (or more). Sometimes it pays to pay more.

can't go wrong at this price but they aren't as good as led lights, but thats why they are cheap - check out 7dayshop.com, they ofter have led lensers cheap and they are good quality and brighter

Nobody said you'd get a cree torch for £3. What was said is that for a few pounds more you'll get a torch that trounces any incandescent maglite on the quality, quantity and throw of light while consuming less battery power.

kingborris;6213078

copshopuk.com/aca…tml

If that's the case, then buying this and the upgrade comes to £13... not bad considering the rrp for the magnite is £13 :whistling:

ditto

LED Mini Maglite £9.99 in B&Q today.

I have a 3AA 3 Watt LED maglite and that is bright. A very good thing about maglites is that they have a lifetime guarentee. A generic battery leaked and got suck inside the barrel of the mag I just mentioned, and I sent it to them and they gave me a brand new sealed one completely free. I doubt DX would do the same!

I bet your torch knowledge has increased tenfold though.

The Mags all have quality alu barrels and good weatherproof seals, just remember to lube the threads once in a while.

Combine it with a 1-watt Luxeon upgrade, or the three led job mentioned earlier, and you'll have a great torch that'll last you for years, not that this one unmodified at a mere three quid is anything to sniff at. Hot.
