Community Updates
You can of course record the network stream for each minidisk for free using VLC player for instance. In real time, it's slow but the quality seems quite good and you don't need a fast connection. This is 128Kbps seems quite listenable
@jasee lol no, just no. there are far easier and faster ways to download than by recording it in real-time, e.g. by just downloading the mp3 instead of streaming it - and it's 128 Kbps, whereas even the leaked version was 192 Kbps, neither of which are of any listenable quality.

bbc.co.uk/new…096 Now I'm no fan of Radiohead but ithis seems to me to be the way to deal with blackmailers.

Climate change is real, actually.

Indeed. I'm pretty certain at some stage I will have to explain to my daughters that yes. in 2019 people were still driving past schools and playgrounds in diesel Range Rovers. In fact, a lot of the school run Mums actually drove and parked on the pavements in a quest to be a couple of metres closer to the school gate.

Yes, we knew it was causing climate change and yes, we knew it was damaging people's health. But, you know, people in other countries cause pollution too, so there's no point in us bothering to change. Apparently.

It's worse than buying overly inflated price CDs in the good old days of HMV except it costs twice as much and you don't get a CD to keep!

It's almost 18 hours of unreleased audio, it's never getting an complete pyhsical release.
Can't believe a fan would balk at £21 quid for 18 hours of never heard before material including alternative versions of songs, demos and unreleased material
I miss my mini disc

You have to add taxes which makes it £21.60.
I don't mind, every penny well spent for raw Radiohead material.
Why expired? Just have it up for £21.60.

It was posted as Free, and as it's £21.60 that's quite different to free. Any heat gained would be based on it being available for free, so correctly expired I'm afraid.

title: noun: the name of a film, book, painting, piece of music, etc
clickbait: noun: articles on the internet that are intended to attract attention and encourage people to click and read further
So if I buy some unfinished records I can help save the planet?

Always a good idea to include things like that in the title @ssc1
I've edited now so it's clear and I'll bump it in 'New' in a second so it isn't lost

You've posted it as "free steam".

Gave me the vapours.
Now now girls

I listened to a bit today and my god it's tedious. Yorke described it as "not very interesting". Correct assessment.

What a horrible thing to say. One of my best friends is a Jehovah's Witness and he's one of the nicest people you would choose to meet.

I'd still much rather listen to 18 minidiscs worth of alternate versions of old material than any of their new stuff

For me the fact that Radiohead explore and evolve their style is what makes them the band they are. I hope that never changes, it feels genuine and honest. Bands that find a formula and stick with it die with it and become the past. People like to reminisce though.

Harsh! While the albums in their entirety are not the greatest, plenty of their newer tracks like "Dark Decks" & "House of Cards" are memorable tunes.

And it's not 18 hours of alternate versions - some of it is just chord progressions, then the same chord progression with a slight difference. Or a recording of something off the TV. More like ideas they were keeping track of. Really not that interesting.
Hacked and ransom story smells like BS. A Minidisc is offline media. It's like saying hackers got your casette tape.

It was £8 yesterday when it went up.
I remember thinking how cheap it was at that price!

At least their back in the spotlight after twenty years of absolute nothing worthwhile. Honestly, Radiohead would have to pay me to download anything they've ever done.
I wouldn't donate to that group. They are not worthy.

I wondered this too, wired has a good article about it. Heat added too, great deal if you’re a fan

As Wired noted, someone would have likely had to access the physical discs to get the files unless Yorke had already uploaded them online somewhere or stored the extracted files on a computer with an internet connection. When exactly it happened, who did it, and where the music was originally released is still an unanswered question. But the music has been circulating online for nearly a week—fans on Reddit even had time to create a 57-page time-stamped, color-coded annotation.

That's some cliched and condescending toss right there.

Bands who run out of ideas within their formula might die. Or they might start making tuneless rubbish and just hope that people appreciate their "honesty".

That's nice. Its so easy to criticise. You can listen to their old music and be happy, they don't owe you anything.
This is a fantastic deal for the radiohead fans. Being one of them, this deal is pretty much deal of the year to me. What an awesome thing to own. Good luck to Thom and the boys for the future. There are rumblings of some new material soon. If you ain't a radiohead fan, move along, nothing to see here!
