"This Ministry of Sound branded car stereo features a CD / DVD player, MP3 playback, FM / MW digital tuner enabling you to listen to all your favourite songs on the go."

Model Number MOSCA099
- Number of Speakers: 4 x 40 watts RMS (advertised as 25w, which is a mistake)
- Built-in FM Radio FM/MW PLL digital tuner with 24 station presets.
- 2.5in TFT colour display.
- SD/MMC card slot.
- Multiple preset station memories.
- Aux in.
- ID3 Tagging.
- RCA x 2.
- Full detachable panel
- MP3 / WMA / MP4 compatible.

Seems from the review it has lots of flaws if you are wanting it to play MP3s.

It won't play from USB or SD card if there is a disc in the unit.
No folder support - just one long list of track numbers.
It always starts from the first track upon switch on.

So no good for a DVD full of MP3 tracks. In fact it makes it poor for even a CD or a USB stick with MP3s on.

Review from ciao:

I bought this product from Argos for £149.99. Firstly let me say that this wasn't what I wanted to buy initally, as there are other stereos around with higher spec (eg, much larger screens of the touch type, and bluetoothe enabled), all aimed at the same price. So why did I buy this unit then? A lot of other dvd stereos have slightly over sized heads and getting them to fit into the dash isn't as easy as it may first appear. On my particular car, it's not possible to fit due to riased sections of my dash, however, the MOSCA099 fits like a glove. Anyway, I think you get the picture, so what about the stereo. Turning on the Ministry of Sound MOSCA099 reveals a smartly blue illumination dials, followed by a clear vibrant 2.5" screen. On loading a data cd (filled with mp3's) a smart menu appears allowing you to select your chosen song. The menu is a little hard to read I must admitt (but only becuase the text could just do with being a little larger to read). On inserting a dvd then the full operation hits you with a 'wow', being a clear deep bass sound and smooth playback over the screen. On trial with most discs, it has not refused to play any (eg, jpg, bmp, mp4, mp3, dvd and all the usual file formats. In general i would say buy one, if your after a decent stereo that looks good, sounds good and has plenty of features to play with. If your after the top of the range, massive touch screen and something a little more special then hold out, and shop around for something a bit more exclusive. Sound 7/10 - Dvd playback 9/10 -menu system 5/10 and easy of use 5/10 - remote controller 6/10

i got this about 2 months ago for £80:x . It does play from usb and sd card if the cd is in you just select"mode" on the remote, common sense really, i can confirm there is no folder support, it starts from the first track if it is an data disc instead of a music disc, i.e mp3 instead of cd audio files. However it does remember dvd and or divx posiions in films even with the removal of a disc.

I'm still v happy with it for £80 as it has audio/ video in & out so you can have a a different playing source as well or a different out put e.g any screen you want with those 3 inputs which is pretty much any tv!
i can now watch a bit of delboy if i'm having to wait in the car
Also out put is 40w x 4 if anyone wanted to know which is as good as most other head units

Nice find hot!

What do you mean 'now' £50?

Going by the reviews on the 24th and 25th of November last year it was £50 then?

Website says 4 x 25 watts RMS speakers

Is the build quality good? There dont seem to be any decent pics, it looks cheapy?

Its £50 for a car stereo which will basically play anything, and has an lcd screen = bargain.

Build quality of course wont be top end, but will be perfectly adequate - much like the very similar ripspeed one i bought last yr.

If you're gonna expect this to be better than a £200 one with simlar specs then move on, as you'll no doubt find something wrong with it.

If you want a good deal on a feature rich car stereo, buy it.

It looks like you can't remove the face for security?

That ALONE wouldn't make me buy this at any price, if so.

Good luck with all the smashed car windows..............

Looks like that how exactly?..............."Full detachable panel", as listed, suggests you can.

Apologies, didnt see that. (skim read).

People are so picky sometimes...for £50 you wont get much in the car audio department, let alone mp3/dvd colour screen etc.
Its not something i would personally buy admittedly, its all down to your budget.
If you only have £50 to spend then this would seem to be cheap to me. ;-)
Similar unheard of brand here , same sort of thing from what I can see is £149.99.

Haven't used this particular model myself, but from what I heard last year when I was looking into getting a stereo/cd/usb was that ministry of sound wasn't as good for this type of thing as their name suggests.

I ended getting a Sony GT 410 for aboutb £75 last year, and would recommend it highly to anyone looking to get a new stereo (albeit the sony doesn't have a dvd option, but in most people's case the dvd thing on this is not going to get used as much as the audio features as the screen's not big enough). The sony should be around £60 or something now but I can't stress enough how amazed I was at getting it, I thought I would have upgrade the speakers in the car but even with the factory standard, the sound via usb/cd is amazing.

It would help if you could state why you thought these were garbage, so others can make a more informed decision

Cheap and nasty. Something like this is a perfect example of "you get what you pay for". I genuinely would rather have a standard cassette player than this.

This is the RMS power of the unit, which is what most car stereos is.

the 4x40 is the PMPO or PEAK power output.

these will be super cheap and cheerful, but its a good deal anyhoo. These will be of the same build quality of the ones you find in LIDL.

I own one of these. Another point worth mentioning is it cannot play MP3s at 320kbps. It did play all MP3s ripped at 128kbps.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole but that's me for £50 its great when you consider the JVC kameleon that i want is £400 and has a 3inch screen and plays movies the same as this does there no excuse for not getting one of these at this price.

I bought one of these last time they were reduced to £50, build quality is not brilliant (a spring flew out from the removable fascia the first time I removed it), and the interface software is appallingly bad, incredibly long delay when reading half-decent size USB memory or SD card, no folder view, takes an age to skip tracks, doesnt remember position when powering back on.

I wouldnt recommend this at all to anyone, got rid of mine couple of weeks after getting it.

saw these and if i didnt already have alpine fited in would prob go for it so voted hot anyway based on price it not the op's fault if the quality lacks

the cars we fitted them to the customers kept coming back saying they have to retune the radio in every day and the radio kept losing signal we had to change both stereos for a new cd player, also very cheap looking

yea i've wired it differently so it does store them it says how to in the manual

Thanks everyone for your comments, as suspected seems they're not so good (certainly not worth their RRP) ... I won't be buying one, but for the money I guess it's not bad. I just don't like cheap, although as others have said for £50 - what do you expect?

It needs wiring to allow a small trickle of power when not in use, to keep the presets in the memory.

Pretty sure most work this way (again, my ripspeed did), but im far from an expert where it comes to wiring

I take it the AUX (audio) IN is on the back of the unit? RCA/JACK?

Not hot... save a little ore and buy pioneer / alpine

Can hardly blame the head unit for not being fitted correctly can you? That said, all the MOS stuff I've seen is cheap, badly made Chinese rubbish that relies on the price and label rather than any notion of quality for sales.

I've seen this unit in action and it's unbeatable when used correctly and for this price, it's an awesome deal.

The unit is a multi -region dvd player (inc. dvd-r's) that can also output video to external monitors (seen this unit hooked up to 2 nine inch monitors ).
Has video in, so can be used as a reversing camera monitor .
Has audio in, so can connect to ipods and mp3 players.

The USB plays divx too (so does the hidden SD slot).

Downside is the interface and ease of use (if you have no patience) can be a letdown.
The radio reception strength is weak too.

Sure you can buy a car stereo just for music for £1000's but for fifty notes this unit as a great multi-media device (if you have patience and can deal with the poor interface) .

Thanks for your input. While i dont have one to personally confirm, i did expect most 'problems' mentioned to be with ppl not installing correctly

Thats not a "fact" at all.

Perhaps youve been unlucky in the past? Perhaps you're passing judgement without experience? Either way, its irrelevent as it will have a 12 month guarantee
