About this deal

Product details
This 40-piece hex and spline set from Minotaur is an auto trade essential. The socket set features a comprehensive choice of hex and spline bits and two 10 mm bit holders.

Made from hardened and tempered chrome vanadium steel with a shot-blasted finish, these sockets are designed to be hard-wearing. Make sure you have the right tools for a safe and easy job with a choice of hex sockets, star bits and spline bits (see the bullet list for a full breakdown). The hex sockets remove bolts without causing damage, while the spline socket gives you a precise fit, and can even turn fasteners with damaged edges.

Each piece is engraved with its size, so you know you'll have the right fit. The socket set comes in a smart Minotaur-branded plastic carrying case with dedicated slots, making it easy to get your hands on the piece you need.

The star bits are the ones security torx? I'm interested if these have the hole in the middle.
To be completely honest, I have no idea.

Perfect set for diy mechanics had mine for a year now and used them quite a lot brilliant, lost one of the holders but a 10mm does the same job (edited)

Are these the equivalent of Allen keys? Like would they have the correct size in there for bikes and bed frames as well as bigger jobs?

I was a bit surprised to find that spline bits, say M12, aren't actually 12mm in diameter, they are somewhere around 11.3 - 11.5mm.
This varies between sets and you seem to get a variation of ~0.5m, this includes the M13 and M14 bits (not included in this set)

I'm not sure of what the official tolerances are supposed to be, just something to be aware of if you are measuring an unknown fitting with a micrometer
