Already seeing a few being sold on gumtree for £80/90. Gyms opening soon - so unless you urgently need a home gym setup I would wait for a 2nd hand set
Wow I put up a gym equipment deal and People didn't say I'm getting commission 😯
Omg thanks you so much.... Its a sign...for the last 30 minutes I've literally been sitting with a pad of paper trying to work out if I had the clearance to fit in a power rack or one of these and I was deciding it was probably one of these, either this or the white hardcastle which seems identical.

6% cashback at TCB BTW, cancels out the shipping.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see some of these on gumtree for 350+ in the next few days. My gumtree is full of argos 'opti' sets being sold at 4x face value. There's the occasional bargain - but I replied to an advert yesterday 3 minutes after it had been posted and I had already missed out on the item (an Olympic bar with 150kg of bodymax weights for £100).

wow that’s awful to here - considering these were £89 pre covid (according to trackers).

ive noticed a lot of scalpers buying equipment and trying to resell for stupid prices. Even these 30kg Argos weights seem to be on gumtree for £200. Don’t think anyone would be desperate enough to pay over the odds for opti equipment - hopefully these scalpers get stuck with all these kits with no way to sell it, like them toilet paper hoarders

Woooo thanks man. Just ordered.
Good bit of kit. I wish I’d got an adjustable like this instead of my powertec rack. Heat.
Also I knew this was you JT before I even knew it was you
Been waiting ages for this to get back in stock, cheers for the alert! Now just need the M3 to get back in stock....
Great bit of kit had this couple of years ago for bench press and squats. The variable width is useful and it can be disassembled really quickly

Thanks OP been waiting ages for this

I've had this for several years. It's great, it was obviously a lot cheaper pre lockdown but currently this is a good price. If you pair it with a half decent bench it can be used for bench press, squats, shoulder press. I've used mine loads over the years and it's kept in a cold sometimes wet garage so is obviously well made.
Ordered to go with my seat/bench from them

Not sure the Mrs will be happy with this purchase, we live in a one bed upstairs flat.
Thanks very much man. Just what I need...
Been waiting for this to come back in stock. Thanks!

Agreed. I googled M1 rack for the dimensions and the shopping ads across my page were all £250-350 for this exact rack and a similar hardcastle rack

It's not great that this (or at least the hardcastle) could be bought for £75 in February, but at least I didn't pay £350. I think the manufacturers are going to try and keep the prices high, at least at the RRPs. I don't think many of us will be back to the gym 'normally' til next year now.

Thanks for the head up, I have just ordered this. I annoyingly forgot TCB though.

The bar holders and catch bars are both quite raw looking on this so I think it will be neccessary to add some padding.

I'm now lucky enough to have a full home gym set up; 7ft barbell, about 270kg in cast iron weight plates, flat bench and now rack. It has taken 3 months to assemble and a lot of internet browsing, but I got there in the end.

I don't think gyms, as we knew them, will be fully operational for quite a while, so i think it is worth the investment. I imagine when they do open up it will be restricted numbers, you will have to book a time slot, only 1 person to a piece of equipment etc.

Totally agree that it will be quite some time before gyms go back to how they once were. I think quite a few will disappear as well as they are usually run on quite thin margins. The money I would have spent on gym fees has gone into getting my own kit so I wont be returning, I'm sure there are many others doing the same.

I think alot will do fine.

Alot of independents are alot more than Just a gym to some, my favourite gym had to close a year ago due to redevelopment in the area.

I moved to a flagship pure gym the same day it opened (same day my old one closed funnily enough) but it's not the same, the quality and the diversity of kit isn't the same.

I wish they had more freedom instead of their own catalogue.

I'm in a very similar position to this. I went to a great little independent gym that closed about 9 months ago. The kit in there was great (it was small but had 4 squat racks) and all the people were really friendly. I have since joined 'The Gym group' which just isn't the same. They only have 2 racks for a huge gym space and client base. The barbells and plates are crappy and old. There is an unpleasant atmosphere most of the time.

I think even without covid I would have been looking at a home gym set up.
The pictures a bit misleading, I thought the bloke came with it too.
I've been looking for a squat rack for a decent price in months. Bonus that I can bench with it too.
Double bonus that it is adjustable so I can use my cheapo bar on it, and further delay spending out for a decent 7ft bar.
Massive thanks for posting OP!

question to the experts, apart from pull ups what the main advantage/disadvantage of using a power rack over this? is it really worth making the extra space for a full rack?

Safety is the main one I think. While this has safety arms you could still collapse backwards in such a way the bar crushed you if you were squatting, a power rack virtually eliminates that risk. Again from a safety pov you can't bolt this down so it could topple whereas you can typically bolt down a. Power rack, but we are talking about heavy weights at/beyond the stated capacity for the rack

You can also use additional attachments with a rack. Or even make your own, like a lat pull down, you can use a rack as a post for band work etc. They are a bit more flexible. But their main disadvantage is their height requirement.

Also power racks can usually be customised with storage for plates, landmine, cable systems etc.
Simple racks like this can be moved without too much hassle, where as a power rack is a bit more static / difficult to move if you had to.
Still expensive...I am going to wait 1 or 2 months and then buy when these come back down in price. You could probably get decent like new stuff when people go back to the gyms and sell their stuff.

I don't think that many people will be selling any decent kit, just the cheap stuff like iron 1" plates 🤮.

I think some will even more their Olympic bars to their gyms

Yes there is a lot of stuff being sold on gumtree because people have upgraded as decent kit slowly becomes available.

I've seen some good stuff going cheap, but it's ususally being sold by ex-wives/girlfriends clearing out their ex's stuff without their knowledge.....someone tried to sell me a PS4 like that once, but there was no guarantee the console wouldn't subsequently get banned when the boyfriend found out.

I bought a pool table once from Gumtree for dirt cheap, as I was loading it into my van the girl selling it said it was her boyfriends and she was fed up with it so had sold it whilst he was at work, LOL.

careful handling stolen goods and equipment

Was years ago anyway but thanks for the warning.
Random but has anyone has any of the companies like Mace Muscles steel plates/bars?
Had my eye on one of these or possible power rack. Move home in 2 weeks, fingers crossed still some left. Need to see what room I have to play with before ordering!

Mines lived outside, I don’t have a garage to keep it in. I also have the Mirafit bench and it’s solid. I recommend this if you are looking for a squat rack with bench option AND safety bars. I will warn that the dip bars are not as close together as they should be, you end up with quite a wide grip and dips should be narrower. Not bad price considering lockdown.
Got the same one, excellent bit of kit
ordered, nice deal
This is perfect. Now I can curl in the squat rack
Cold, gyms opening in july.
