Bumph on SVP reads;

" How better to ready yourself for the digital switchover that to opt for this 32" model "

However this TV does not have a digital ( Freeview ) tuner??

It also says " digitally approved LCD "??

Seems misleading to me, I certainly thought it had, until I did some further research.

Still a good TV at a good price from an excellent company.

The TV's Description does'nt mention anywhere about a freeview tuner, so why would you think this?? :?

Correct me if im wrong but does digitally approved not mean that it is capable of recieving and displaying digital broadcasts and outputting digital sound, from a digital source, for example, from a freeview box, cable or sky digital etc? :geek:

On another note I think this is a excellent price for a fantastic TV, certainly the cheapest I have ever seen it. I am speaking from experience when I say this as I have one of these TV's.

So heat and rep added, great find.

Around 7 months ago I was looking to invest in a new TV. I had a budget of around £650 and after weeks of extensive researching of LCD TV's on AV forums and on various other sites on the net, I opted for the Mirai 32" DTL 632v200, mainly because of it's fantastic reviews and it's price. I paid over £440 delivered, for this tv from Scan Computers and it is one of the best things I have bought in recent years. I originally got a 1 yr warranty from scan and a 2 yr pick up an return warranty from the manufacturer, but due to customer confidence in the product this has now been extended to 3 yrs from the manufacturer and that was 4 months AFTER I had purchased the TV

I mainly use my Mirai for watching TV and playing on my Xbox 360.

When watching TV it displays a clear crisp picture with good true looking colours, whether im watching freeview, terrestial or cable. Due to the TV's quick response time of 6.5ms it is also ideal for watching sport such as football and rugby, where other TV's may struggle to handle the fast moving images associated with a lot of sports. This is actually quicker than a lot of computer LCD monitors that are currently on the market.

Specification wise, it is also an Ideal TV for the Xbox 360 and looks amazing in High Definition, especially through the supplied component leads displaying on 1080i. There is no ghosting on images, the colours are bright and vibrant, the blacks look black and the whites look white not grey as Ive seen on some other TV's. I have had comments from friends who are using there 360's on 32" Sony's, Phillips and LG's and they comment the picture on there TV's do not look as clear and sharp as the 360 displays on my TV and that it displays an all round better picture than on there TV's. I have no complaints regarding this TV since the day I purchased It, and have friends who have looked at my TV and have recently purchased this TV over the more popular branded TV's and saved a fortune in the process.

Here is a bit of useless backround on the "Mirai" brand that I came across while I was doing some research before purchasing my TV
Mirai meaning "Future" in Japanese have only just recently started selling TV's in Europe over the past 2 years. The brand is owned by the Taiwanese based Chi Mei Group which was established over 45 years ago, they are currently one of the top 3 LCD panel suppliers in the world. They have been supplying LCD panels for LCD TV's, desktop monitors, notebooks, mobile phones, PDA's and personal video systems etc to many major A-list brand manufacturers for many years now and decided to enter into the LCD TV market at the back end of 2005 with the Mirai brand. They have put heavy investment into the future developement of the LCD technology and recently had group excess sales of 5.75 billion US dollars where they produced over 22 million large format LCD panels to use in it's own products as well as other manufacturers.

I never said it did, it just implies that it does, any TV with a scart socket would fall in to the category of " digitally approved " under your description.

I just think that the description at SVP is misleading, it implies that the TV has the " Digital Tick " mark, which this TV cannot comply with; as in;

" How better to ready yourself for the digital switchover that to opt for this 32" model "

thanks for the info. however, how does it perform connected to a an HTPC via VGA (or even DVI-HDMI) ? from my experience, the cheaper screens have been very poor for movies or games (lots of tearing/judder) but would be interested to know how this tv copes - especiall with High Def movie files? any info would be appreciated.

Great spot !

Having recently splashed out on a plasma I have been waiting for the price for this set to drop for a while.

As mentioned above this tv has been getting rave reviews over on AV forums, read the forum if you have half a day to spare.

Have ordered one and added a little heat.

Thanks

Crap crap crap crap crap!

That's my technical expert opinion :-D ! I have one and the picture and sound is extremely poor for such a TV. The scart socket broke and the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. It stinks of cheapness. I wished I have spent only c£100 more and got a decent one from a shop.

Do not touch this with a bargepole

I value your opinion, however, you appear to be the exception when reading the dozens of reviews offered on AVforums.

I suggest people read the dedicated forum linked to above before making their minds up.

Did you use run this TV from a true HD source? SkyHD, Blueray, HDDVD player, Xbox 360 via DVI,HDMI or component? I very much doubt it.

People need to realise that HDTV's are for high definition sources and can not expect old technology such as digital tv through scart to be amazing.

On another note; I think still don't know whether to get this TV or the Hanspree :?

Hanspree - this looks plain horrible, regardless of its technical merits:thumbsup:

I just bought this tv for £331.77 using the promotional code above, if you are registered with svp you get the additional little bit of money off. It's not much, I know but every penny counts :-)
Their comms are great, I had 3 emails within 24 hours to tell me exactly the status of my order and delivery

Old technology, erm, it is the only current technology that provides any useful amount of TV, remembering that this is basically an Analogue TV, not even Digital, and will only receive the standard 5 channels without external input.

Just thought I would give you an update on this one. I ordered this on Sunday afternoon and received my tv on Tuesday morning! TV is great looking, has a great picture and great sound quality and was really easy to set up. I'm really pleased with it

Yup, use it for HD Xbox games. The customer service is the worst element as mine had a fault and it was a complete pain in the backside to get it replaced as it's the usual rubbish 9-5 mon-fri and has to be collected from you in person and delivered anytime between those times. If you are not in, they try and make you pay for it!
Basically, unless you are unemployed and on benefits, and desperate, then work harder and buy a better TV.
Oh, and when the Sky man came he said "Mirai, now that's a new one...."

Most if not ALL Internet shops operate Mon-Fri (9-5pm)

Sorry to hear you had a problem, however you where covered by your 3 Year Warranty.

And no offence but since when did Sky Monkeys know much about TV's? :giggle: :giggle:

Mirai made LCD panels for some of the top brands in the world prior to manufacturing TV's.

But if you'd rather pay twice the money for the same picture quality because your a brand snob, then I think your on the wrong forum

come on i dont think your comment on the sky guys is really quite fair, they get a lot of experience of a wide range of tvs every day and the quality of the output through the sky so they probably have a better idea than most other people of the best tv's to get. you can quote all the stats u like but cant beat personal viewing experience (he didnt put an opinion on it anyway, he just commented it was new...:?)

and the poster you were commenting on clearly isnt a brand snob as he has the tv and was only making a few remarks about the tv's failings

its good to know they have been around for along time so thanks for that info though

I have to agree. Possibly the ugliest TV in the world :-D

Just to add, I've had this tv now for about six months and more than happy with it. The picture quality is very good, especially from a hd source, but I was even impressed with the picture via freeview.

While specs are are important, particularly when buying sight unseen, (excuse the pun), if you buy on specifications alone you will more than likely come a cropper because other factors must come into play - particularly aesthetics.

And regardless of specifications, this Mirai has to win a prize for the ugliest set in recent times!

That alone would negate any marginal improvement in picture quality IMHO:p
