For those that own; is this any good? I read the combat is frustrating but the visuals are amazing.

Same price in sainsburys

Good price, but having waited this long I can see it dropping another 5-10 in the next month.

Does it have multiplayer ? I have brought one.

Played it with the 10 hour trial on EA Access, that was enough for me, very frustrating.

It looks and sounds great (theme song is by Chvrches). Combat can be frustrating until you get the drop on it. Basically. don't look for a brawl. Pick individual enemies out from up high, preferably at speed. Keep moving to keep your focus shield up. I enjoyed the story and the general atmosphere that the game creates. Faith is a strong female character. She can stand on her own two feet and take care of herself. Video games could generally do with more female characters like her.

Very enjoyable, but understandably frustrating for those that are unfamiliar with the controls from the earlier version. Takes some getting used to but worth it for the kinetic experience. The collectables and side missions are highly derivative ("deliver this in 45 seconds!") but still bring a sense of achievement as you analyse the terrain to figure out the quickest route to traverse. This seems like a fair price. Heat.

Not in the traditional sense. You can create running challenges that appear in the open world for other players to test their skill on. It's online, it's quite good fun, but it's not really multi-player.

Wait for it to be at an acceptable price for the trash that it is - the princely sum of £10!

If you have played the first Mirror's Edge, don't even touch it. I have never been so heartbroken in my life!

Oh man, really? I really liked the first one. It was flawed and difficult, but so rewarding to progress through.

I'm playing the first one on PC at the moment (it was something like £2.12 on Origin). It's a great game, but I don't get the hate against the sequel. Admittedly I have played them the wrong way round though.

I really enjoyed Mirror's Edge 1 and have 13 hours of gameplay in Catalyst.

Basically the entire game is getting from point A to B. Often it's about doing it quickly, sometimes it's just about working out how to get there. Now this would be rubbish if it wasn't for the fact that the running is so fun and satisfying, when you get momentum and just nail jump after jump with lots of wallrunning, springboarding and sliding it's just as rewarding as nailing headshots in an FPS game.

It's also very unforgiving, I die a lot from missing a jump or falling off something high. But that's fine as it adds a challenge.

Combat is pretty fun too imo. Most enemies are in groups of 4 and there are 4 varieties. Often you'll defeat the first guy in 1 hit by using all your momentum, then it's just a case of trying to knock them into each other or getting away to build more momentum and get some height. I have never been frustrated by the combat, if you are then you're probably doing it wrong (standing still trying to do the same moves over and over again). Also if you slide tackle the gun dudes they often die in 1 hit.

Side missions are a bit pants and some are downright cruel. Often you'll unlock a side mission before you unlock the tools to complete it. I've mostly just left them until I finish the story.

Finally the open world aspect combined with the aesthetic of the game means it's very easy to spend an hour just moving about not doing much except enjoying the scenery.

got tonnes of games to play at the moment so will hold off until it drops.

heat for the current price.

I played the beta, thought it was ok, not any worse or better than the first game

I really liked the first one and I'm itching to try this, but I'll hold out as it seems primed for a VR re-release and my PS VR is already on pre-order. Heat for the price though.

6mths and it will be in the Access vault

It doesn't matter to me either way, but both DICE and EA have gone on record to say that Sarkeesian was never a part of the development of Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

7 hours, no fluidity in running, extra jump combinations, too much Assassins Creed elements, Map, objective-driven rather than story-driven game, too much focus on combat rather than running adn escaping, different voice-actors for Faith ... I could go on and on

Found this on the net :

DAY 1

Played Mirror's Edge Catalyst PS4 for the first time
The run while trying to go off grid felt less fluid like the first game. When you bash doors , the door doesn't swing back at you or when you jump from a height, you no longer somersault on the ground after landing
Button layout seems to have changed. Went to OPTIONS and changed layout
There's a runner silhouette as you run, to assist you but it felt like spoon-feeding to me for noobs
You are also told which button to press to jump, etc. on every obstacle .. further spoon-feeding
There are some unnecessary new moves , like hold X to jump higher, hold XX to jump and run , springboard and then wall run - these just ruined the fluidity of runs
You have to go through a combat tutorial - it felt like the game is going to be about lots of hand-to-hand combat, which is a far cry from the first game which just involved running and getting past baddies
If you press a button and run, it fills up a Focus shield , which will protect you when you fight baddies
There is now a MAP feature, where you set your waypoint like Assassins' Creed games
There is also a unlock skills menu, which again seems unnecessary and like the new Assassin's Creed games
Faith's voice does NOT sound cool like the first game and she sounds like a playful teenager. Youtubing revealed it's because they used different voice actors FFS! Jules De Jongh voiced Faith in ME1 and Faye Kingslee voices Faith in ME2
Rather than a continuing story, it feels more like mission-based. Go here, do that, Go there, do that

DAY 2

It is an open world game. The singleplayer does not automatically continue the story.
Just like an Assassin's creed game, you open the map, find your objective, set a waypoint, complete the objective and then repeat for the next objective. You can also FAST TRAVEL to a hideout
There are also side missions.
When you approach people after completing objective, you even have to press a button to activate the cutscene!
Running fluidity has still not improved! Too many obstacles have been placed to ruin the speed of a run.
Today I just got completely lost. I am not sure what I am doing in the game anymore or what the actual storyline is.
I can no longer see objectives in my map and online walkthroughs seem different too!

And, at this point, I have decided to just sell the game! Never have I been so disappointed with a game.

Thinking of buying this game ? Don't be a fool! Any good reviews you may find online are definitely biased. What a way to ruin a beautiful game! Sigh....

From what I can tell, you're really bad. Like awful at this game. How does it take a day to realise that it's an open world game?

So now you're just nitpicking random things to complain about in order to justify you selling it on.

Thinking of buying this game and have an IQ above 12? Go for it!
