nice shape to the box as well

Don't you need HDMI 2.0 for 4K?

At least one of the reviews state they are streaming 4k with it.

Depends on the source file encoded. Quite vague on some specs.

What would anyone recommend to control one if these boxes, iam quite savvy with technology just don't know if android needs drivers and certain tyes of controllers to work.

I've gone ahead and ordered one of these boxes, I was looking at the S805 boxes but figured the extra memory and updated chipset was worth the extra £17.

I've ordered one of these to use with it:

Excellent, would you need to plug in a wireless dongle or use the wireless from the box itself.

Had a look at the neo Android box a while back but costed double.

Use the built-in wireless.

Just remembered I have a bluetooth keyboard with a wireless dongle for my pc somewhere wondering if that would work.

Thanks mate.

It comes with a small wireless receiver that you plug into the USB port on the box.

It could work, no guarantees.

You need HDMI 2.0 for 4k at 60Hz.

Just what I thought. Again, will depend on source file format. At best this box will be at 4K/30Hz over 1.4. Could be long wait for HDMI 2.0/USB3.0,

good specs , however u would need to install TV addons to gain acces to latest movies tv shows etc . and mobdro , showbox also there's a Russian app, torrent stream that works alongside ace stream you get all the sports but in a lot better quality than mobdro etc. also popcorn time is worth downloading for films , series . I pesonaly would buy a droidsmart box as they come fully loaded as installing the addons you really need can be a pain in xbmc / kodi. also with a droidsmart box , they have remote connect which if you have a problem you phone them up , they can connect to your box and tweak or restore files that may of been accidentally deleted / became dead links , and all part of their service for free ! takes the worry out for anyone who isn't up to constantly updating addons plus its just easier. them boxes also have a droidsmart updater that downloads a constantly updating master copy of the companies box with the latest content if needed.
all that said , this is running kodi , were the droidsmart because of all the custom work , run their own custom version of xbmc Gotham.
I use my box and nothing else to watch tv , don't need anything else.

thought is add , you definitely need to buy a keyword with built-in mouse pad like the link above. soo much easier, though the one someone posted was backlit and would crack me up but you can get them eBay or Amazon for around the tenner mark and tbf most are same and same alike. you will benefit from a qwerty keyboard and built in mouse pad though !

*I'd

I've had 2 cheapo android boxes with same or similar spec in the last 12 months. Both have failed and became unusable.

Ended up buying Amazon FireTV and putting Kodi on it.uch, much better

Cheers,have purchased

Doesn't have HEVC decoding capabilities - or at least OP doesn't mention it, so that rules out 4K Netflix and Amazon prime, and future 4K services. I wouldn't buy if you're solely buying for the 4K capabilities.

Looks canny

The S812 GPU is capable of H.265 decoding. I don't know if this box does support it but the chip certainly does.

as I said you can't go wrong with droid smart. boxes come fully loaded and rooted , mx 3 ultra is quad core / Oct core gpu and anything goes wrong call up and they will remotely fix your box. this alone is worth paying for. drive space is somewhat irrelevant as all media is sreamed , 1080p if you have decent connection. plus all sky sports bt sports sky movies etc come pre installed.

I have this box. It has decoded everything I have thrown at it, including x265 HEVC @ 4k. Not tried it with 10bit 4k yet. Good luck to the Amazon Fire TV owner who wants to attempt to play x265 / HEVC !
I still have a number of lesser Android TV boxes inc prev popular RK3188-based devices, but this s812 device is easily the most powerful and quite simply: it just works.
Ordered mine from Amazon late May 2015 and the firmware was dated mid-May 2015; pre-installed Kodi was v14.1 (at time of this post, my box's Kodi is telling me v14.2 is available).
A HDMI cable was included, but mine did not have an AV cable in the box; currently waiting for Amazon comment
Note some earlier models supplied by Amazon were lesser s802 variants, but these will all have been sold by now as fulfilled-by-Amazon stock has been exhausted / replenished frequently in last month or so.

Arguably the best value (cost/features) Android TV box at the moment. Some random specs pulled from mine as fulfilled by Amazon late May 2015:

Looking forward to getting mine and having a play, it seemed good value based on the specs and the marginal extra outlay compared to the S805 boxes.

Unavailable now. But, this doesn't seem a great deal compared to some of the updated M8 boxes available with same cpu, ram, rom plus extras not mentioned on this such as dual band wifi, bluetooth, an SD card reader and generally available for £40-£45.

Also, I wouldn't dismiss the AFTV option unless you need the basic 4k playback support. The build quality of these chinese boxes is pretty low and they do have a high failure rate in my experience at least.

I've also gone the FireTv stick route and really really like it. It's so small and just plugs in my USB to power it. They run awesome for a dual core. Been using mine everyday now for 3 weeks. Best £25 I've spent.

This is probably the best buy at the moment: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-MK808B-Plus-Amlogic-M805-Quad-Core-Android-4-4-Mini-TV-Dongle-1G-8G-WIFI-H-265-Bluetooth-DLNA-Miracast-345579.html
Supports H.265, has a USB port and micro-SD card slot. It has a lot of support too for custom roms and things like that. And it's powered by USB like the Fire Stick.

Gone for one, anyone point me in the right direction for the best pluggin for getting the free sat channels ?

Most of the time it's just not included in the firmware. Their other S805 box (the Mobie Dazzle S805) doesn't support 24p.

Looking at buying another of the OP item (that incidentally does have bluetooth), but if you can point me to the s812-based M8(x) equivalent for £40-£45 I would be grateful, thanks. I haven't seen them below £55 ex-UK.
