Great spec Android box with optical audio out.
4K Android box using HDMI 1.4 so should do 4K at 30 FPS which is fine for movies I think, 24 FPS for blue ray?

Play store, KODI/XBMC can be installed amongst others to provide TV and movies.

I'd recommend a wireless keyboard with touchpad, just my preference.

Normally £79.99, so 23% off. Of the 27 reviews, 24 are 5 stars.

For a 4K player I would have expected support for HEVC-265 codec

I have been disappointed with other so called 4K players. Hopefully this one will be better.

Got one. Not bad. Not much difference from the lowest model they do. I also have the mobie prime. 1gb ram. Both do the same.

The S812 has H265 support, can get them for about £35 on aliexpress now though.

That's the S805 (1.5ghz) on Aliexpress for £36.91 not the S812 model (the one posted).

No it isn't, I've got an S805, even 6 months ago they were only £20-30. The S812 can be had for £32-35 even from top sellers now:

Dcx, looking at your link I can't see the same one.
I can see other boxes with with the S812 chip in them for $54+ like here
not sure how they compare, could be identical inside, haven't looked. Could be a cheaper alternative without Amazon service if there's any issues.
Also need to look out for customs charges maybe as Aliexpress ship from China.

Will this play Amazon instant video?

what are the remotes like on this?

I will never buy direct from China after bad experiences specifically relating to 4K media boxes

Have you tried a wired network, maybe homeplugs instead of wifi?
Ivhad similar issues with EE throttling my speed in the evening times, found wired to be best when speeds are slow.

I've had the minix neo x8-h for over a year, at the point it came out was one of the best android boxes.....after using an amazon fire tv....and even a fire stick the neo x8-h (which has an s812) has been boxed and not touched. Even the Fire stick can run Kodi better!!

Sure the minix can run games etc better but i would take a fire tv over it anytime, including for the remote. Those air mouses are pretty garbage, their only saving grace being that some have keyboards on the back.

Hdmi 1.4 only supports 4k at 20-30 fps. You need hdmi 2.0 for true 4k at 60 fps. Nvidia shield tv is the best unit if you require 4k. Clockworkz units come rooted with tvp buffers tweaked to give you your full internet speed

Nvidia shield TV hands down best thing ever. But it is pricey

as a total newbie can someone point me in the right direction to getting a box to stream files so i can watch downloads straight onto my big screen please ?? thanks all

i have a hard wired network setup ready for it ..

Most Android boxes will play movies of external hard drives supporting multiple formats.
Any box that can install KODI will stream movies TV and sports also.
