You will certainly get a good front sound stage. My rear speakers are behind the sofa. If you want to have a surround sound feel they are a must.
Put the rears high up on a wall level with the sofa if needed. That's what I did and you still get the same sense of things left, right, front and back. The fact they are higher also gives you a (fake) sense of height whilst keeping everything out of the way
I have my MA rear standmounters directly behind my sofa. Just adjust the distance/delay and volume in the surround amp. It isn't as good as having the speakers all at the same distance but it's a good compromise for surround.
I would just go with 2 fronts if your sitting in between them. Very happy with my 2.0 setup for movies and I have had 5.1 before and don't miss it
I would advise trying just the L/R channel first, we ended up not getting a centre or a sub and we don’t even have floor standing for L/R. Only very occasionally (with certain movies, haven’t figured out what it is yet though) do I think we could do with a centre, but I just turn it up a bit. (edited)

Same I have just Wharfedale diamonds with stereo amp sounds great with decent base. films with lower dialogue it be same even on a center speaker it's the the films,. I use Kodi / Cyberlink power dvd and I just use the options to boost sound when needed.

Ok, so I'm really lookng just for 2 front speakers, center and a sub (if needed). Rears are tricky due to cables and how furniture is positioned as it's a lounge/dining room lol so rears won't really fit, even if small as would have to be directly behind the sofa (only place they'd fit. Think the floorstanders and center would work for both music and home cinema? Cheers.
The speakers will come with floor spikes. If used they will penetrate the carpet and sit firmly on the floor beneath when adjusted and levelled up. This will tighten the sound and make them less muffled than they would if they were sitting on the carpet.
What's going to break?
These are half the weight of the more expensive models of the same size. Cheap wood, cheap glue will come apart before you look at things like coils.
I can't decide if the Monitor will be more "neighbour" friendly or if it won't matter that much on that front? Meaning either choice is still going to be "loud" when neighbours are concerned.
I worry I'll pick the monitor speakers, when the Dali would be a better choice. If the MASS 5.1's are great though, I'll go with them. No-one near me has the MASS 5.1's in stock to have a demo, which is frustrating.
