Don't worry about the colour reference, the best thing to do is listen to the speakers. We all have different hearing. I actually preferred the sound of the Silver 300's more than the Gold 200's. The Gold 200 being over a £1000 more. I also liked the sound of the gold 4g better than the 5g( g=generation).

So find a local dealer and do some research. Also try different brands. When choosing speakers like these, it should take you weeks and not minutes to make a decision.

Plus to answer your question, are golds really needed for surround's. The straight answer is no, but it's not about how loud they are, when you spend lots of money on speakers. For me its quality of the sound at low volume.

Cracking brand cracking floorstanders
What replaced these, the silver 200 or 300's?
Amazing prize for Silvers. My Bronze 2 were nearly 300!
love the bronze but are these any better
Wow. Real nice.
Amazing speakers for the money. If you can live with the colour.

Silver 200Most definitely

I've not heard the silver 200's, I did listen to the 300's. In the end I got the Gold 300, which sounded a bit better.

But for the price these should be great speakers, when matched a Centre and Sub.

For the price difference I would've hoped for more than "a bit better"

Lol.

Obviously the sound quality is a big step up, 8" drivers over 6". The workmanship on the cabinets are also a jump up. I have the Piano Ebony, which I was sold on before I'd even heard them.
Had a 5.1 Bronze setup, have a 5.1 Gold set now - awesome speakers, brilliant price on these.

Please don't treat my question arrogant - is such high sound quality (of the Gold series) is really needed for the surrounds?

To be fair, no. The fronts, centre and especially sub, are a significant upgrade between the colours. The difference in the surrounds is minimal.

Do you really need a sub when you have 4 x 6" drivers already? You must like your bass.

I currently had silver rx surrounds with apex A40 centre & A10 L&R.
Been thinking of a new front stage for a while but unsure silvers will offer much more than my current Apex fronts
I have the older RS6 series. I got Richer sounds to price match a similar deal and got a 7.0 set-up for much less than half price. These sorts of things are a high quality purchase so if you buy what you're happy with they will last a lifetime. Everyone wants a little more low down extension but if you matched these with a sealed sub it will sound fantastic and likely better than any floorstander only solution.
You could probably try Richer sounds for a demo. You'll probably want at least 60W RMS to drive these properly.

If you listen to stereo music then the RX series would give you much better bass extension but I would probably spend the money on a BK XXLS400 as you would end up with an overall better sounding for similar money to this deal.

One good thing about richer sounds, they let me take the demo centre home for a trial (Gold C250). Obviously I paid the price of a new speaker, but if I liked it they would replace it with a new one. If I didn't like it, they would refund. So couldn't lose on that.
