Have some heat

In the Worlds before Monkey,
Primal chaos reigned,
Heaven sought order.
But the Phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown.
The four worlds formed again and yet again,
As endless aeons wheeled and passed.
Time and the pure essences of Heaven,
The moistures of the Earth,
And the powers of the Sun and the Moon All worked upon a certain rock - old as Creation,
And it magically became fertile.
That first egg was named Thought,
Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha, Said, 'With our thoughts we make the world.' Elemantal forces caused the egg to hatch, from it then came a stone Monkey. The nature of Monkey was irrepressable!

Used to love the humour and the song at the end...

Although, still quite expensive. £45 for a couple of series on DVD? Not particularly hot.

Blimey that’s a blast from the past! Monkey used to float about on a cloud I think?! Was a very surreal programme!
Loved watching this when I was younger , I even bought the game for my Commodore 64, one of my mates was SO into it he painted a broomstick all black & even did some dodgy Chinese writing on it!

I hope this is still as great as I remember it.
A real blast from the past but the truth is the program is a load of balls.

Cheers for that!
Brings back memories. Used to be (& still am) an avid fan both Money & The Margin back in the days. Absolute legends.
I bought the show as individual series many a moon back. The audio on the first series has an annoying background tone running throughout it. Thought it might be fault with DVD mastering but the replacement direct from the distributor was the same.

Really about time someone put it out on bluray.
Apparently Netflix are redoing it

Apparently Netflix are redoing it

The remake is on Netflix just now. Added today.
You stupid pig, I should bash your brains in
I saw an interview with Masaaki Sakai once, and they asked what he thought about the English dubbing and humour, and he said it sound exactly the same in Japanese!!
Great tv series, heat added

Netflix version is awful

Yes, they are included.

This is not actually that great a price,
it's regularly around £30 on amazon, zavvi as well
Childhood memories.
No, the 13 lost episodes are included but not the redubbed versions.
I still can't believe the damon alburn completely arse up the stage show. By having his head stuck up his own arse. I think the french theatre hoped for a gorillas take on it. What they got was ....... pompous nonsense.. idiot
Heat for the memories
Heat...if only for the memories. Sadly, I know if I buy it I'll only end up watching a few before I start thinking it was probably best left to those half remembered memories like so many other box sets I've purchased over the years. I did however read the book a few years ago though and I could vaguely relate to a few of the stories contained within to the TV series.

I do know one thing for sure and that's that my 3 kids will only need to watch about 5 minutes of Monkey before they make their excuses and vacate the lounge leaving me to reminisce on my own (with only the dog for company)!

Wee cake? Is that the things they throw in urinals? Was you sniffing them?
Perfect series . This is when tv was fanstatic. Great stories, theme tune. Intro. ..
Fantastic! Would love to rewatch this again. Watched a little of the new series on Netflix, looks OK so far.

All this Monkey Magic makes me want to play Enslaved Odyssey to the West again...such a great game especially for 'Monkey' fans.
Watched this religiously as a young kid back in the early 80s. Even as a child though I thought Tripitaka was a complete tool.

Paintings from the long corridor at the Summer Palace, Beijing, China. Originally opened in 1750
The original Chinese story dates back to the 16th century and is supposedly based on historical events of 602 - 664

What about the episodes which were too risque for them to be shown in the original beeb run? I think chanel 4 ran them about 15 years ago but it was late at night and when I watched them I can see why they were not deemed suitable for 6pm peak time viewing.
Also there have been a ton of film adaptations recently with the best being Monkey King and Journey To The West.
